OptiMaster

Post by dawman »

Someone please explain what Optimaster does, and if I could play Upright Piano and a Hammond Hardware module through to set it up using the Wizard, then just do a gig?

Well.. I use it to optimize my master ! After mixing my project as best as I can, I leave 6-10db headroom, then record it thru optimaster and use the wizard function to set it up first then, if needed, I make better settings. The result is excellent ! I believe there is a lot of multiband hardware units that does the same job. And a lot of soft too but none with a wizard feature like optimaster.
I don't know at all for upright piano & hammond....

Scope is real-time, so I should be able to play some piano organ parts simultaneously using wizard before a gig, like a sound check, and leave it in the mixer master FX slot.

Just want to send the best signal possible to the PA.

We just added a Bellari RP562 I bought from ebay in Deutschland.
Really mint condition original parts.

But we sent to Voodoo Labs in Louissianna (Old French territory) and he swapped out Tin switches for Gold sealed ones, all New connectors, 3 x Analog Devices AD832AN OpAmps, and I searched for brand new old stock RCA 5751 Command Black 3 Mica Tubes from the 1950s when it was legal to sound good.
This thing takes a mix of a band and does it's own OptiMaster shit.
Never knew there were Tube based Sonic Exciters before.
Check out these 58 year old tubes.

Well, I wonder if Optimaster is some kind of "lookahead" mastering tool consequently adding some "latency" ?

I see you buying more and more (used) hardware and get it modded for "best sound".
I wonder what leaves for XITE-1 and SCOPE at the end of the day then.

Possibly Modular only ?

I use lots of Scope FX Mixing Modular.
Hardware FX discrete audio analog
Solaris DSP
HX-3 FPGA....

The vintage stuff with Tubes cannot be emulated.
I don't feel my person sound needs Tubes.
But the PA using Tube Compression sidechained, and the RP562 add a whole new tight punchy sound.
Perfect for 70s music which is my current venue.

I ran the Wizard while playing Upright and Hammond parts.
Saved a nice full preset using my 24 driver IEMs.
Popped up the meter and liked it showed -6db.
Mixer shows -10 so having it inserted adds+4db.....cool.
When I solo the 2nd Mod Wheel on the K4 kicks master meter up to -4db.
On optics meter hangs slightly below 0.

Works really well this way.
No need to run the Wizard again.

Learning never ends.

I like it to pull down the threshold point in the graph on the separate bands, down to where the green leds
start blinking down to the wished compression level.

The hard thing is, you need to feed the plug-in a dedicated input level from the master Out.
I like it to see already some slight action on the bands before I start further manipulation.
It reads the actual action in the graphs more comfortable, you see the gain per band going.
I don't know if this is wise tho.

Optimaster is standardly in my master chain, but I also use it on broadly composed signals like drumloops.
The synths of Jimmy cover the whole audio range too.

I my case I take care to safe the preset with the project, it also makes you try changes faster.

Optimaster and PsyQ, they both keep to keep me busy I must confess :D

I was thinking of adding PsyQ but think the ranges are covered with Opti.
It seems to give more beef.
But PsyQ can add high end glitter to boxy dull audio.
Worked great 8 years ago on my converted Emulator samples.

Odd though that I have the best sounding Melotron Strings I took from the FDD and sent to Kontakt.
If I leave it dry its fantastically realistic, has the Major Tom sound nailed.
When I try and widen it in BX Control, or use PsyQ even a chorus it sounds terrible.
As is in its 8bit quality it still cuts so well.

But Opti works really well.

I really notice it when I add a B1200 Behringer Sub.
Big Ass punch.
