OSS Formula X - Introduction and Tease Thread

Post by faxinadu »

Hi Z gang! We would like to introduce and tease our next big synth release - the upcoming Fromula X and Formula FX bundle!

The synth's idea was to take various cool things from across the platform that never apeared together in one product and create a massive sound design tool. You get the filters from Minimax, Pro1 and Pro5 on the right side and the super versitle Poly Filter with its array of shapes on the left side. you get the cool wavetable osc from vectron/lightwave paired with a pwm osc that can serve as a sub on the right side and you get an additive osc based on the stuff you can do in modular with sine partials on the left side. Both oscs have an additional layer of sonic awesomness and experimentation by utalizing a comb filtering and decimation option. You also get here an advanced iteration of concepts introduced by us at Ocean Swift on our earlier devices like the ability to use the synth in drone mode, dedicated envelopes and lfos for featured paramaters, built in fx, and our single page ideal. The synth provides for a unique feature allowing seperate unison detune and bend ranges for each osc. The synth also allows for built in aftertouch control on a number of paramaters. Additive, Wavetable, FM, Subtractive its all there organically - you don't chose one path or the other you just flow through these synthesis methods within the device's signal chain, and in our opinion it just works! Furthermore, Formula X comes with an additional device - Formula FX which strips away the sound generation chain but keeps everything from the filtering onwards to the effects. It is much lighter on DSP than the synth and is a delightful filtering and fx box to use on just about anything and will respond to monophonic midi allowing you to "play" the filters with notes, velocity and aftertouch. Another cool random feature is that presets from the synths will load on the fx unit ;) :)

The devices are complete and we are going through final checks, testing them around and having fun preparing presets. They will come with a couple of banks and there will be additional presets available to our user area subscribers as well! :) Information about release date and pricing will come soon! More pictures, information, sound examples and videos will come soon as well!

Some pictures from the current build states, there will be slight mostly cosmetic changes for the release version:

+1.. This does look interesting. Multiple synthesis flavors and types with a multi-effector, looks pretty versatile and powerfull. Your GUI's always seem to be done the right way for people like me with poor vision. Can't wait to hear audio-clips and demo it! Congradulations on another brainchild release Faxi!

Congrats for the GUI - looks more like a Rob Papen creation than anything I've seen on the Scope platform, except for maybe COZ and VOID.

Would love to MasterBeta that synth.
Brilliant concept and harmonics and dissonance look refreshing.

Send me a purchase ASAP.
I already have a use for this.

Great demos too.
3rd video I enjoyed watching harmonics warp the sound.

You're sick in a good way....

No deal necessary.
I dont expect Club owners to pay me more for showing up early.
Full price is fine with me.
Its a brilliant design, worth every dollar.

Looks like a great synth.
I saw a flash message when loading that the pdf. shell couldn't load, etc.
Do you have a manual or introduction you can share...

Particularly curious about RingMod and FM inputs.

Wow...
Haven't seen a synth I liked or needed for sonic differences in a long time.
This is incredibly tweakable.
Waveform selection is nice, I like the Point so far the most, but there's way more content here.

Home Run with the bases loaded Faxi.
You hit it out of the park this time...

Already got it chief.

Ankyu.

I promise to not send screenshots from my phone anymore..

That shot is way too big, but it just matches the sound of the deadly Fomula X, brother of Racer X, borther of Speed Racer.

Works bet when Osc. Mix is also isolated more.
That way I can play this like a Hammond B3 sort of.
It is Additive synthesis, and the old Hammond using the drawbars was adding and subtracting harmonics.
But then the Doppler effect (Walnut Cabinet Leslie 147 and Tubes) was quite mesmerizing...

Here's my new COntroller that sits upper left on Solaris, should be fun using Formula X with this too.
