STM Mixers -Board IDs

Post by MrV »

Hi ,

re : Scope PCI

Just wondering about the Options section in the STM 2448 / 4896 mixers
where it allows you to set 12 chan blocks to various boards in yr system .

It allows up to 5 boards ... ??

I thought the maximum number of boards allowed is 3 .. ?

the limitation to 3 is based on PCI bus implementation on the motherboard
you have to go way back in time to find a board that supports more than 3 on a single bus

Ok thanks Tom. So if I found a motherboard that had 4 or 5 pci slots I could run 4 or 5 cards? ... but it's also their IRQ assignments too? :) cheers, M

correct...
it's not the number of slots, they all have to be on 1 single bus - that is extremely rare...

Ok . well I might have sourced a motherboard that can do it .. will see .
But the question is ...Has anyone ever run more than 3 cards at once ?
And does anyone really care ? :)

there have been special motherboards running four cards in the ancient(by computer standards) past.
none that i know of in the last 10 years, at least...

Ok ,. hey Gary ,

Well I've still got a bunch of cards here incl a 3 x Scope Pro system .

It is such a fabulous system , will keep these running as long as I can .

Currently looking at getting a Fujitsu D3236-S board...I've heard good reports about it ...
maybe I can run more than 3 in this , but if not no probs .

Thanks Gary ,, I suspect none of those ancient motherboards you mention would run Win7 , right ? :)

that board isn't ancient at all ;)
but the Q87 Chipset doesn't even have a native PCI implementation, it's bridged from PCIe...
I wouldn't hold my breath on that one
