New pc build component check/advice requested.

Post by Tommytastic »

Hi, I'm looking to replace my aging q6600 pc, partly in mind that pci slots are missing from the latest motherboards and I might get to the point soon where I can't build a new machine that will take them. Before I go ahead I thought it worth checking here incase there were any known or suspected issues with the parts in looking to use.

I'm planning to use the machine 50/50 for audio / 3d rendering (cuda), hence the graphics card.

I have 2 x 15dsp scope cards. A mk1 with adat and a booster card with zlink daughter board.

I'm looking at:
Asrock z97 pro 4
i7 4790k,
32gb (8x4) corsair vengeance pro 1866 cas9
Silent tech 220 aio cooler
evga gtx 980 ti
Samsung 840 evo 500
Corsair 1000i psu
Nanoxia deep silence 1 case
Probably some kind of external nas/raid.

I choose the mobo because it was the only z97 I could find with 2 pci that did not prevent having dual slot graphics cards.

I did consider a hex core and asrock z79 extreme but difficult to get hold of and would be a lot more money for not much more performance.

The graphics card should hopefully not generate much noise/heat when idle. I might want to add a 2nd at some point. These will primarily be for octane rendering.

The case allows removal of drive bays so should be plenty of room for cards.

The 4970k has only 16 lanes pcie, Is that likely to cause any problems?

Can you forsee any issues regarding the scope boards with this setup?

Do you know of any other z97 motherboards that have 2 pci slots I should consider? Ideslly they should accommodate 2 dual slot pcie cards. Bonus would be sli incase I wanted to game with it.

Many thanks
Tom

in my opinion, for socket 1150 you can't get better than this: http://www.fujitsu.com/fts/products/com ... 3236s.html

Socket 1150 has integrated graphics so you don't need a graphics card unless you want one...Have a close look at the connectors on the Mobo for graphics eg -VGA DVI [DVI-D-not as flexible if you plan to use adapter such as DVI-VGA]- & HDMI & Display Port

Big RAM for 64 bit
