The cheapest video card to run Scope 5.1

Post by tlaskows »

On Windows 7 x64 and Sonar X3.

I have a GTX 770 from when I was playing games, but I don't need it now. It's taking too much space in my rig. It will free up an extra slot if I get a smaller card.

I found an old GF 7200GS 128MB, is this plenty or no?

I think it can support two monitors, it has VGA and DVI.

If not what's a good cheap small fanless video card to get?

Thanks!

What are you going to do with your game video card ? Here, it's the oposit : my son is getting old and we bought a video game which won't work in the pc in the house because, apparently, the video card is too old.

We already ordered one but we don't have it yet.

Hey Tom, I don't know what you're getting but this is what I've been using. It's a Low profile PCI-e card that doesn't take up more than one slot space. The fan is very quiet and helps add a bit more cooling in the case.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ronnie.

The one I found does not have a fan. And I just found another ATI based one in my other old computer.

I haven't even tried them out yet lol.

But if they don't work, I will consider this one. I'd rather not have a fan, I have like 5 case fans already.

Just looked at the other one, a Radeon 4850. It's a lot faster, has a small fan and dual DVI. I think that's the one I'll use. I prefer DVI than using analog VGA for 1080p.

Here's my opinion: Stay away from ATI based videoboards. They will cause ASIO streaming interruptions and a lot of frustrations. Tuning and tweaking Windows and video settings didn't succeed until I swapped the ATI Radeon board with a GeForce board. Even with an older GeForce (FX-3500), everything runs smooth.

Yup. It's for sure apples to oranges. I only use SCOPE on that PC, no games. I only install the base driver as Nvidia can have a lot of processes running with all the game stuff.

Nvidia Quadros are the bees knees and can be bought pretty cheaply. See my post from a while back here: http://forums.planetz.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=32629

Just installed the Quadro. Windows automatically installed the driver and everything is running very smoothly :)

Definitely recommended for Scope users.
