CV to analog audio input

Post by JoPo » Sun Apr 08, 2018 3:20 pm

Hi.

I made some search about this but as often, the planet Z search function ignores 3/4 of the words !

I'm trying to catch CV signal into my Scope system. As usual, I'm SO naïve ! I believed that it would be as easy as thru ASIO between Scope & my daw.

But apparently, it's not ! So... What do I need ? Some kind of CV to audio input converter ? I find plenty of audio to CV converter but not a lot of CV to audio... Just that one for the moment :
http://expert-sleepers.co.uk/es2.html

My CV signal is good. I an see it in my analog heat mod input. But I can't see it in Scope. Are all analog audio inputs filtering DC signals like outputs ?

Need help. I'm entering in not known area. Thanks.

You have to AM a carrier wave with the CV, send it to scopw and use an envelope follower module to decode the am signal.
And yes, all outside audio seems to be AC coupled.

I am waiting for an Expert Sleeper ES-3, for the other way, to send audio through ADAT to CV (I finally made the plunge after all those years thinking about it).

Without it, I would need a DC-coupled audio interface to get a useable signal recognized by the PC as digital audio, and this is generally not the case with audio cards. I think only Motu has/had such connections. Or it is mods by people or companies in elecronics.

I made researches, asked questions, and at the end of the day, for me only Expert sleepers provide CV/Audio/Midi stuff at a resonable price.
So there is no other solution (there are other manufacturers of course but it is generally more expensive).

I will use it to build CV stuff in Scope.

ANd you? what do you do with CV sent to the Computer?

+ you need a eurorack case for the power supply (99€ the cheapest.... or DIY).

Black Lion Audio does the ADA-8200 conversion which turns the analog outs into DC coupled.
The unit cost about 650-700 total cost + modification.
I use an A16 Ultra and Z-Links plus the BLA ADA-8200.

And folks wonder why I like XITE-1s.....

Expert Sleepers ES-6 is a DC-coupled input and it allows your external CV to control your Scope stuff easily - Trust me, I got 2.

However, the ES-6 requires an ES-3 (DC-coupled output) next to it for clocking.

I remember in the eighties I was shocked that some synths did not have midi but CV only.... in 2018, it looks like a lot of people still use or are new to CV..... (the consequences of Eurorack and synth revival ? )

did you try this ?

""" Silent Way CV Input
Silent Way CV Input provides a means of getting control voltages from an analogue synth into the computer, which is not normally possible since the DC voltages of CVs are blocked by the inputs of all current audio interfaces. Once inside the computer, CVs can be recorded, or processed as any other signal before being output back to the synth. ""

but you need to do something like this which is more limited than one of their module:

http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/siwaacencoder.html

so you need some kind of hardware signal conversion anyways....

I have no experience in that though
