SUPERMICRO 1U CHASSIS

Post by dawman »

After three different builds from very understanding folks @ http://www.newegg.com
IThe PCI-e 1X Connector using a cheap 1.50 USD Ribbon Extender allows the Horizontal angle to work really well.

MSI-Z77A-GD65 w/ i7 3770 w/ Dynatron K199 1U HSF
Samsung low profile 22nm 1.3volt RAM 4 x 4GBs 1333MHz
2 x SATA III OCZ Vertex 4 SSDs
Seagate 500GB Momentus XL Hybrid SATA II
520w 1U Supermicor PSU
6" PCI-e 1X to PCI-e 1X Ribbon Extender

The 1U is put into a DJ 4U Slant ATA Case. The 10U LCD goes where the rackmounted Turntables or Mixers would have gone.
Front of 4U is the 1U Supermicro and the 3U SE-1X.
Back of 4U is backside of the Supermicro 1U, the XITE-1 and the SurgeX 8 out Voltage Regulator.

Thanks the fan noise is really loud, i can hear wind as these bastards got some rpms.
Putting he lid on directs the air on sides of the CPU, so the design is very well thought out.
Drives CPU and RAM are stock speeds, and yea the plain old 3770 jumps to 4,2 with ease for supposedly being a locked CPU, everybody lies in this world, even Intel.....
Fresh installs on everything today, then I'll do some rack shots, and this 4U is still heavy but so much smaller with less gunk.
All MIDI and Power cables are capable of 360 degree rotation, the MIDI must be opened ( screws loosened ) but it too can go dancing round the clock.
The Riser Ribbin snaps in place well, but I had to rig it's connection to the PCI-e 1X card to keep it really snug, as it wasnt reading the hardware at first.
But there is no extra room, so I would advise ribbons instead of a riser card. So what if a little tape is needed, the card would actually be too tight against the lid.
Also worth noting this Samsung RAM is mature now, and Low profile, ow wattage.
Just raising the RAM to the stock chipset specs of 1.5v got me 4.2 on an a "locked" CPU.
I am at everything cool and stock though, the SSDs using the benchmarks are stunning.
Correlates to 1800 voices in Kontakt, which is 3 times faster than the Raptors.

It's super lightweight, fast soundchecks, quick tear downs, and no, Junior is 6'3".
The guy you see is Crying Mike as he's known around the neighborhood.
When I had the Barbetta's and the Sub crankin', the windows flex, little Hummel Statues start walkin' round, pretty powerful stuff, but he always comes over in hopes there's some singer auditioning.

Its a briefcase that came with old Scope Pro DPs years ago. I cherish it as that was back when Frank Hund was stealing..............ooops sorry, I meant making lots of cash...

I know my arms from years of concrete work are big, but that mirror makes me look super buffed and tough.

Crying Mike looks the same though, whiny little Romney Mittch.
Yeah we call the local Romney chicks Mittches.......

Slightly OT but the stock speeds and the SSDs with the 1.3v RAM is just light years faster than the i7 X58 and Raptors.
Not even able to get a crackle at the lowest settings.
96k isn't worth it to me yet, but 48k and digitally connected hardware devices sound insanely rich.
I think I will start using some MIDI Tracks backing me at some of these High Dollar conventions where they want a Singer more than anything.
I know a foxy redhead who usues a Kareoke set-up and then dances with the customers and gets all ho-ey and shit but is knocking down 3 nights for 5k a night and working twice a month, another guy is getting 5k a night dressing playing Piano and looking exactkly like that Mamby Pamby Elton John.

I wish sometimes I had was prideless, as pride don't pay....

You're on the right track. Elton is a family man having his second child now, and acknowledges that having someone big name as a parent is a big weight around the childs neck, not to mention the family structure. Remind Junior of that next time he complains about 13ms

Can the imposter shmuck play Funeral for a Friend ?

The guy was an impersonator of decent quality in a town where there are thousands of Elvises, Joan Rivers, etc. So with his limited skills he actually trained hard for 5-6 years doing Classical and Jazz and was really everywhere. I would see him going to shows and always was asking for opnions on gear etc.
He did listen to me and got the laptop and a Casio Privia XP-3. It weighs nothing, and he can load a little dolley with 2 x monitors and a laptop/88r.
PianoTeq 4 is incredible and making a Grand Piano sound real is up to the users knowledge of sound. It can run on an atom processor if need be, and the sound and control of every aspect is so far beyond the half assed sample stuff where sostenuto isn't even in the vocabulary.
I am not an Elton fan anymore but when I was young the Tumbleweed connection was just too cool.
But this guy nails it really well and since companys and corporations have lots of cash, they never hold back when it comes to a party, convention, or back patting get together.

that reminds me on a walk with my wife a couple of years ago...
the local soccer arena is just a couple of miles away and on the hills you get most of the noise.
Occasionally they have bands playing there, as on that evening.
We recogized Elton's old tracks. 'pretty good cover band, really' we agreed, which is something... :P
sitting on a bench, smoking and listening...
next day it was in the local press, and as you probably guessed. It was the man himself.

eh... and good job on the gear Jimmy 8)

cheers, Tom

He was here at Ceasars while Celine was having babies from her Grandfather...........sorry.....I ,eant her husband, and he had the boig Red Grand and did pretty good, but I am mhard to impress and am my harshest critic, as I have seen Rubenstien, Horowitz, Victor Borge, who is still a riot to watch years later, and believe it or not Liberace was just so Vegas-y and an incredible sight to see and hear.
Elton does have some great songs he wrote though, so he is definately an icon. But Liberace was so good at what he doid, there are no Liberace Impersonators. That's sums it up pretty well.
God I would love to do that, as I have a freind with a fialed business that made Grand Piano Shells of Pine Wood and they were light, and shiny Ebony. We'd put a KX88 or A90 inside of them and sit on the bench. He was as queer as a 3 dollar bill too.
But maybe I could try that and get the mirrors and a Candelabra.
But I would really need some work on getting that gay face happening. That would be tough for me but what a challenge.
That would be something after all of these years to see my success come as a Liberace Impersonator..........Jeez.

And thanks for the build comment too.

Kind Regards

Elton was here in AUS last night gigging with his Yamaha Motif on the X-Factor.

Maybe we should write to him about Solaris. What would we say ?

Dear Elton,

Despite you're aging image and somewhat gay proclivities we still remember some of your great tunes. We feel that Solaris would help you look more hip on stage as its dimensions would distract from your width on a wide screen and lets face it, the Motif is almost as old as your last chart appearance. Solaris would help you impress even more 2PAC rappers and besides which I'm sure you have enough money to send me one or two. Love Lies Bleeding on 2 Solarii would sound awesome at my next gig.

Excellent Link....Ankyu

Elton won't use a Solaris.
And I remember I never saw him as I was too young, but in the '80s he did that gay ass Im back, and Im alright tour or whatever it was, and he supposedly kicked the drugs and booze, but he was a real jack off, and even spit at the audience where some people were yelling Rocket Man and instead he kept playing this crap music nobody wanted to hear, and he was booed like Rondstadt when she drug that feedbag Micheal Moore up in stage and started talking politics.
The crowd was throwing shit on the stage, they were escorted out by securiyt, she was paid and asked to leave the Hotel immediately, and everyoine got a refund.
Vegas is definately decadent, but still shows class at times.

But elton needed his Dog walked or something as he was really angry and in self denial or something.
I have never wanted to see him since, and just try and remember the guy I saw on TV who was laid back and sang and wrote his ass off,,........................that was then. :P

It's a fine line as a star that's just about done. Some know when to call it quits others cave in to perceived popular demand or thier own or thier managers addictions. I saw Whitney like that on stage as her voice had gone and was on inhaler breaks back stage but she retained some measure of poise and humility as she gave her all one last time. We couldn't bring ourselves to stay for the 'Wanna Dance' finale though, maybe we should have out of respect even if it wasnt the way we wanted to remember her.
