Re: ExpressCard shipping
yup I have ordered one as well.
Also got my Dell Precision M6500 the other day which I am happy to find out does have the TI chipset, so will let you know how it goes when the expresscard gets here

nope...
it'll surely cross your home's threshold this week...
Re: ExpressCard shipping
jippie, got mine today...
will do a short test this evening and report back.
btw. it's so tiny and the feel's a bit cheap, maybe because it's very light...

Re: ExpressCard arrived :-)
That's comical. Mine was delivered yesterday at my studio in Holland.
Unfortunately I'm working in Switzerland this week so I have to be patient till I get home.
With laptop do you use with the expresscard?

With a Dell Precision M4400
Re: ExpressCard shipping
take a look at your pcie-x1 card and you know why. there are not many electronic parts soldered to it, so where should the weight come from? shielding?katano wrote:btw. it's so tiny and the feel's a bit cheap, maybe because it's very light...

I'm sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Re: ExpressCard arrived :-)
they should have put some extra weight in it, it's to light for 120 Eur

Re: ExpressCard arrived :-)
PCIe really only uses 4-8 signals, plus power coming across the connector and down the cable. The PCB's are usually about .8 - 1mm thick.
Not much going on other than some small driver chips.
You can always rubber band a heavier object to it

Re: ExpressCard arrived :-)
just put it into your laptop and leave it there forever. then lift the card. enough weight for the moment, huh?

First impressions on the express card:
impressing!! my projects work like a charm on the laptopy, like 24-48 ASIO2 channels flawlessly on 44.1 and 4ms ULLI. It works even better than on my Desktop, which is 4 years old I have to admit... however, pci bandwith never exeeded, and this is a ricoh controller in my dell precision m4400, magma users mind!
this is a spare notebook from my office, just plain windows xp, no optimizing, no disabling of devices, what so ever. attached two usb disk, a mackie control via usb, i'm surfing the web over wireless and editing screenshots in photoshop while i'm recording or listening with the project below without a single crackle, sick!!!
Cheers,
Roman

Re: ExpressCard arrived :-)
Well, congratulations on being one of the first 'lappy-Xiters' !
My laptop is on order, and should be here in a week or so.
see you on 'the other side'...

Re: ExpressCard arrived :-)
Thanks for the report Katano. That sounds very promising.
Still waiting for Thomann to send my Expresscard. I spoke to them on monday re some other stuff and while on the phone mentioned my pending order and they told me the card would be in stock that day, but still not sent yet, so might have to give them a call tomorrow and find out what the delay is. Getting restless
But in the meantime I will get the laptop all set ready to run Scope 5 XITE

Re: ExpressCard arrived :-)
Brotha' Man Katano,
Judging by the DSP numbers in the left column I will take a wild guess that DSP 10 is where the STM2448 has been assigned.....Is this correct?
I recently loaded the 2448 and noticed the numbers to be 640-650 and it seems SUPER Optimized...??
Please confirm my suspicions.
This also seems to show there are no numbers for the Plate/Ambience....they must be on AUX channels or internally placed.
If you would do me a big favor and deactivate the DSP Meter and then reactivate it I would love to see the DSP consumption.
I really wish the guys at S|C would let us know what has been updated..
I loaded this way back when and the numbers made me use something I liked and was accustomed to.
But I have been effects in Modular shells lately as an experiment and found that they were lighter on DSP and mafe the routing window less crowded.
But I have loaded the STM2448 on DSP as the meter shows and it barely registers.....and you have it loaded with good sized plugs.......
This is most interesting.
I only hope this is not a coincidence and these tricks can be passed along to other developers.
DSP 8/9 & 20 are the Mod 4 x 4 Shells packed w/ effects. DSP 13 is a huge Modular Mono/Poly synth. It can do authentic leads and then bounce to a polyphonic patch with all new filters and Oscillators......just like an old Propet or Oberheim.......

Hi Jimmy
All the devices and effects are loaded within stm2448 (aux, channel inserts and master inserts), except bx v2 and wolfs analyzer. bx v2 gives me "no more connections from dsp d to dsp 10" or something and then "big modules don't fit" when loading it into the master inserts of the stm2448. the stm 2448 itself is spanned across dsp 10/14/18, I would say. I didn't assign it to a specific dsp, so it's just a guess. bx v2 is assigned manually to dsp 11. wolfs analyzer would be on dsp 1, I guess.
Unfortunately, I'm not able to test more 'till next week, have to prepare my presentation for the diploma and stuff. Will let you know about further findings...
Cheers,
Roman

Re: ExpressCard arrived :-)
I can't believe what little DSP power this mixer uses now. Nobody ever said anything about it being reworked.
This mixer was LARGE last May when I checked it, and then I never bothered again.
I prefer my effects in the routing window and then pack the mixer with Dynamics and EQ's.
Below I have the STM2448 on DSP 8.
Celmos Tape Sim & Vintage Pro Delay on DSP 10.
DAS D Verb on DSP 12.
The MCCY Flu_Liq on DSP 14.
STM Plate X on DSP 16.
The widely worshipped Phase 18 on DSP 18 ( which I have running through a Modular Insert w/ dual Noise Gates......works perfect for silencing the inherent hiss. )
But when I load the STM2448 empty it has a number 0f 640-650 on the DSP Sync Column.
The extra 500 shown below equates to the Dynamics scattered throught the mixer.
None of the effects below are optimized but with an XITE-1 thats not a problem.
But 3500 in the Sync column is half of a new AD Chip which is 9-10 old Sharcs.
Your numbers are way low and I am wondering if a new version is on your DSP rack. Our meters at the top show 45% so that makes sense. Very curious to see what's coming next.
The STM1632 loads empty with 1400 in the Sync column.....
