Room Pan

Post by dawman »

Here's an interesting device.
I am always whining about these Left to Right Panners.
Hey they're doing what they are suppose to, but I always was trying to get the effect that a Satellite Rhodes Cabinet had.
It provided depth and panning.
For example the speakers SPL's were lowered and raised, and then the Left to Right was also used. It' an incredible effect.
Rotary cabinets and Satellite Speakers are felt onstage, not just heard. They move air around, and that's why old Bastards like me whine when we see these jpegs of a Satellite Rhodes cabinet where they didn't even listen to the real instrument, and provided a tremolo or some other jiration.
This device not only provides the depth, left and right, but patterns as the little Blue circle represents the actual sound, and then moves it around in the Room which is a quality Reverb in itself, and you get ER's, Room, and Hall. No zipper noise either as the Room actually changes it's depth in real time.
This is a 4.5, and vesrion 5.0 device also.
The sound is inspiring.
It's the kind of effect that makes you want to practice. I played my Rhodes through it and made an awesome bunch of presets. Acoustic Guitars, etc. If I were to take a loop of a Locomotive and play it through here, I could start the little circle up front, and move it to the back, w/ or w/o an angle or pattern, and a slow LFO rate, and it would sound as if a train was honking it's horn and driving into the distance... :o

Thanks for the generous words, Jimmie.
It's still a work in progress .. kind of surround for stereo.
If anyone else is interested, tell me ..

I'm absolutely interested in this panner! I like to re-create impression of depth in mixes with delays simulating wall reflexions but an all-in-one solution could simplify the process and sound better.

Let me know if you need beta-testers.

Same here! Lots of samples and heavy FX use here so panning movement is a priority for me as well. If you need bêta testers, please let us know...

Here's some clicky stuff to give you an idea of what this puppy will do.
I have no video tricks but the little circle is doing one of the many patterns.
I like the extended figure 8 160 degrees off left center.
Cleaner than a lean dicked Dog.......

Wow! Love that sound. just curious are you using the b-2003. I have been forever searching/tweaking for the right organ sound and I think you just nailed it with that room pan. It even sounded great on my cheesey computer speakers. (I remember that song......early 80's on my not so old sk-20)
Wolf, that's and awesome device, when will it be avail?

Brotha'Man Dan The Man From Luzzianne......................... :D
Send me a pm with your specs. and I'd be happy to give you the Greg Allman sound.
If you have 12 assignable controllers to use from your keyboard, I can give you a big surpise for automating everything in real time.
Not many guys use this sound, but if your into the B3 I have tweaked this for 3 years and finally dialed it in for live, fully automated work........

Great demo, Jimmie !!

Well .. and also great that there's such a resonance here ..
In this case I'll release it of course as soon as I have done a manual
is it possible to more slow down the speed, to get a very slow motion of the sound in the space
The speed of the sound source movement can be modulated from zero to 50 msec. per meter (aka 20 Hz).
There are also mulitpliers for x and y to raise speed up to 500 msec/m & which give you the easy possibility to create lissajous movements.

Thanks for the offer for betatesting, but beside some small optimisations I just need to do that manual.
I haven't thought about any fees, but as you know me & my prices it will be affordable.

all the best,
Wolfgang

Well, the other device is a kind of 9 track tape emu.
Easy to do a 4 tap-delayed phaser with it as well though ..
A Xite is better for this one, btw :)
(let's hope soon. OOoops, I said the banned word!)
:D

In fact both devices mainly suffer the manual .. boring work I tend to refer to future ..

cheers,
Wolfgang

:P

Well .. I wrote "as soon as I have finished the manual".
It isn't, but to be honest I really didn't start with it yet beside some sreenshots.
So yes, my bad ..

The good news is I was forced to stop working over weekends in my usual job, so this weekend may be a good oppurtunity.
I just need to beat me to it ..

cheers,
Wolfgang

Speaking of Ball Bustin'.........
I was wondering if there was any possible way to direct the 16/32 Channel Mixer Series to open up other Modular shells than Modular 2.
I have a workaround. But I do not have the Behringer BCR2000 to verify the actual connections, but I should get one.
Below I open up the Modular 2 Shell that is a default setting when clicking on the Modular button on every Mixer Channel.
However, I can then bring the BC Modular's CLM ( Circuit Level Module ). I can then click on the little Green square and bring in the BC Modular Shell and build Filters, etc. And have them controlled by a Behringer BCR, only in theory as I haven't tested the actual unit.
But considering who built the devices, I have all the confidence that Dog Will Hunt.
I like having SpaceF, Adern Flexor III, RoyT., and j9k's stuff in the BC Modular Shell also.

Hey Jimmy,
I was wondering if there was any possible way to direct the 16/32 Channel Mixer Series to open up other Modular shells than Modular 2.
No, it is hard-coded into the mixer. But even myself couldn't do it since I don't have the mod3 shell.
I guess the BC-Modular is also a variant of the mod2 shell, isn't it sharc ?

I'm wondering though why you don't get any menus and top controls in my mod shell, this works here with the latest scope5 rc.
Is this right away or is there any way to reproduce (please answer privately :) ) ?

cheers,
Wolfgang
