Anyone out there have a good solution for this?

i'm not quite there yet ... not upgrading for a few months yet, but i am tempted, as most of my prgrams will work (not sure about my interface yet..)

but as usual the old adage applies ..

if it ain't broke.. don't upgrade!

because you will break it!

The Noah Remote Software (NRS) is power pc only and a such the app will not work on mac in the future (thanks to them getting rid of rosetta)

there are some possible workarounds - but these all involve a bit of faffing - so the question is how much do you use/need the program?

There is a good article here:
http://gigaom.com/apple/three-ways-to-k ... installed/

To paraphrase - you have 3 options

1) clone your snow leopard Hdd to an external and boot off that occasionally
PROs - you'll have a back up of your current system - and an OS that runs NRS
CONs - boot time is longer + might have to purchase external hdd

2) create a snow leopard partition on your current drive - (before you upgrade!)
PROs - faster boot time
CONs - separate partition takes up valuable room, plus will be more time to set up than (1)

3) Run a virtual machine with snow leopard server on it
PROs - easily switchable to and from the program without rebooting
CONs - you'll have to buy snow leopard server and some kind of program like parallels. or vmware

as an alternative to (3) you could run windows on the separate partition and use the windows version of the software? dunno if that would work but it should in principle..

I personally will do (1) anyway before / if / when i upgrade but as much as i would like to do (3) i don't want to spend the money or the time!

I am also toying with the idea of getting a small cheap netbook or something similar to run windows on (prob XP) and have the noah remote software on that - another option!

pretty much all the options are a faff and going through the activiy monitor to see which of my programs are power pc - pretty much the only one that is vital is the NRS .. I don't use it every day but it is handy and i much prefer working with a GUI than on the front panel of the noah.

Let me know what solutions you have found or plan to do..

BTW - if you are getting lion apparently you loose the installer after the upgrade - it might be an idea to burn it to a (bootable?) dvd before you click install - for safety/recovery purposes - i'm sure there is some info on the web about that..

Hello,

I am investigating running virtualbox (its free). With win xp. Works ok.. Nothing more.. The best suggestiom i guess is to get a cheap netbook running windows! That one caught my eye. It should be hazzle free. Maybe using ssd to get fast boot. And instant joy with the nrs!

I will chekc some more with the virtual box! I run lion on my work laptop.. And might not upgrade my imac yet.. But its tempting!!

Then scan the marked for cheap netbooks with usb :)
