BTW:

only the copy of Profit-5 that was uploaded on 26.10.2005 is editable via the NOAH directly. The newer one (from november 2005) is not. When I press the EDIT botton on, nothing happens.

The older version is no longer on the FTP. On 23.05.06 it was replaced with the one from november.

Means, the only version currently available from the FTP is not editable from the NOAH. So beware!

This is at least here on my NOAH EX. Anyone else?

Hi,

just found a new version of Prophet5.oxe on ftp://ftp.cwaudio.de/Software/Noah/noke ... NoKeys.oxe

The date is 23th of May 2006  Filesize is 901KB

This version can be controlled with CC#. At least I verified all from the "main" page with my BCR2000. Also the Modulation Wheel works now

The panning on most voices are still wrong so use the corrected Prophet5 voicebank I uploaded some time ago.

This version cannot be edited from the Noah itself though  Still I prefer to do it from BCR2000.

Additional stuff:
When You hold the mouse over some pots then it tells You the value in msec or Hz. This goes for Filter and Amplifier Attack, Decay, Release. LFO frq and Filter Cutoff. Really nice.

Thanks CW

Hi Henrik,

Pulsewidth is often variable between square & pulse. On a pot that would normally be translated as square being to the left & pulse being to the right. 'Zero' as such, is essentially non-existant on such a parameter, as both possible zero positions of the pot are simply part of the variable PW range.

Oddly, something like the original Pro-One was designed with graphics showing a pulse width range of 0(L)-10(R), which doesn't make any sense. Well not as much sense as synths designed with PW range of square to pulse (left to right) & displayed as such graphically.

(well, that's my take on it)

The Prophet 5 user manual says:
"Pulse Width knob: Adjusts the harmonic content of the pulse wave by setting its duty cycle from approximately 1 to 99%. A 50% duty-cycle pulse (having only odd harmonics), also called a square wave, can be obtained by setting the knob to approximately 5, then carefully adjusting for the dropout of the second harmonic (the first octave overtone). Of course this knob is only effective if the PULSE SHAPE switch is on.
At an extreme knob settings the pulses may "thin out" until they degenerate to dc, resulting in no output signal.
The knob has no effect on the sawtooth wave."

So in practise I would think that it doesn't matter the knob is mirrored except for a phase issue. Should probably take my oscilloscope and see how it actually looks like on CW's implementation

You might not get an actual representation of the raw waveforms unless you can hack it to output the raw waveforms direct, bypassing the filter & amp sections, as even with flat/open settings the extra stages of the circuit should be altering the raw waves. Would still be cool to see your results if you Scope it

Scope'd Noah P5 Square wave with different Pulsewidths.

Pulse-width 0 gives low most of the time and a very short up part, destoirted as the original synth manual saids.
http://users.cybercity.dk/~dsl110182/PW0.jpg

PW 1-4 gives longer and longer up time

PW5 gives a 50/50% down/up square wave as expected

PW6-9 gives longer and longer up time

PW10 like the PW0 gives a very short and destoirted wave.
http://users.cybercity.dk/~dsl110182/PW10.jpg

So it does work as expected. The SAW is not affected by the PW. It's all as written in the original Prophet 5 manual.

You can find all 11 scope'd PW pictures at my homepage:

Whats the current state of controling Profit-5 over MIDI continious controllers?

2. Question: Is there an OXE version of Profit-5 that can be used both from the front panel and over MIDI?

Thanks for any input!

The control of the¨profit 5 version for NOAH using Midi CC curently works:

You can see this in use in the BCR2000 template for controlling this NOAH plug-in:

http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19750

Or have a look at the last page of the manual here:

ftp://ftp.cwaudio.de/Manuals/Noah/English/

The only plug-in with which you would have trouble with CC implementation are:

- EDS8I: no CC mapping at all :(

- Vectron (beta version with only a subset of CC message implemented)

The answer to the second question is yes as I received my oxe file together with my allkeys file from Ralf Bach in August 2006 and it works the way you want: I do control the Profit 5 plug-in from my BCR2000 through CC Midi message and the result is reflected on the remote software front panel.

Maybe you should just send a mail to magic Ralf, I guess.

Ooops,...

I now understand what you meant and checked it out. The version I have also do not give access to edit functions through the NOAH front panel.

I did not even pay attention to this point as I always you the BCR2000 to edit sounds.

Thanks, HUROLURA,

regarding the second question, I meant the NOAH front panel... Not the remote software.

cheers!

hm, that's a pity. It cant' be so hard to fix..., can it? I wrote to Ralf B. in early 2006... Will do it again now.

thanks

Yes it works with latest version.

had one install that didn't work.

I am using the Pro12 from BCR2000 no problems.

Strange that they removed editability from the Noah itself. Probably due to memory reasons? There is little space left in the flash with all devices loaded.

I doubt this was a concious decision... I wrote Ralf about it and he promised to forward it to the development team.

For me this is a very annoying bug because I normally use NOah without a Computer. So I need to have full access to all parameters.

Maybe you could use the NOAH without any computer BUt with a midi controller (BCR 2000, Bitstream, Remote, ...) ;)

I already do that, thanks. But this solves the problem only halfway.

BTW: How many of you Noah users have actually bought the Profit-5? I guess: not so many.

As you would have already guess, I did ... and I am happy with it as it is as I only command it from the BCR 2000 for any of the plug-ins (do not use that much the lightwave and Vectron so far).
The only issues are about the:
- EDS8I : no CC mapping
- Vectron beta: only partial CC mapping

To me the remote software is only usefull for patch file management and remote surface display.

I barely never go through the integrated menus except for naming new patch without any PC.
