OBS: audio & video recording and live streaming tool

Post by at0m »

I noticed some here are having issues with screen recording and streaming, so I thought I'd drop this here:

OBS, "Open Broadcaster Software" is a multi-platform, "Free and open source software for video recording and live streaming". Lets you select any most audio and video source and render that to file and/or upload it directly to your service of choice. Easy as clicking a few prefs in a wizard, and you can start making your own tutorials or show off your latest projects.

So if you're into such, check it out.

OBS is great, used mostly by gamers I found it worked quite well to demonstrate what I do for realtime visuals, and was able to even use Newtek's NDI tools to send video all around the room. OBS can be used for screen recording and for broadcasting both (separately or at the same time), and if you use something like restream.io you can even broadcast to multiple online platforms with use.

Note I use Screenflow & Screenium more when on Mac and just need screen recording.
