Legit or not?

Hi folks
Nice to be back on the forums
Being the cynic that I am, I thought I'd ask you guys in the know for your views.
Received this message/email on Soundcloud a few days back, and …… well!
I've edited the names with x's.

Hello,

I found your music via the Steinberg forum. Great stuff.

We are starting a YouTube show called The Cxxxxxxx Cxxxxx Show.

We are looking to highlight artists with their music during mid-changes and end credits.

It would most likely be a 30 sec sample.
We really like the title "When you come home".

Would you be interested in having your music played with full credits in the video and in the show discription?

Thanks for your time and great music.

Best Regards,

Rxxxxxx Lxxxxx

Not very explicit, is it?

legitimate free use of your song to maybe get you some exposure, but mainly to monetize their posting, is my guess.

they make money from your efforts, you might make money from their viewers. i'm pretty cynical about this myself.

I would ask myself....can it harm me? Is it for the Cummy Cockston show, i would think twice...Aimed at White power fanatics...i'd say no. But with a legit broad based channel, and 30 sec with full credits doesn't sound that bad. Is the song just laying around. Take a gamble. It might indeed bring you something.

Yeah, it's an old-ish track mixed in Scope, available for free download on Soundcloud, so full credit to them for asking. And they discovered it via Steinberg forums. My initial reply contained the following:
You make no mention of what the shows are about.
I absolutely would not subscribe or allow my music to be linked with anything to do with racism, sexism, lots of other "isms", pornography or anything anti-Christian.
So if you are willing, I'd appreciate a lot more detail from you before giving any agreement to the use of my music. It may be interesting for instance to find out the context of "when you come home".
I think you get my drift.

Gary, no mention of their money, but I suspect it won't pay for my new house :-)

Thanks both for the replies

It’s always about the money even when they say it isn’t.
