Which is your best choice for a WOODWINDS Library?

Post by Nestor »

It is time to get a complete and high quality woodwind library for classical-cinematic arrangements. A library that would not compromise in quality, but that would be in a good price range, if at all possible. Any experiences on this? Which one do you own if you have one? Thanks.

Just buy a real flute and play it! It's the best experience I ever made! No sample library can do the same. I like synthesizer but I don't need sampling to replace real instruments, to steril.
 out and about for music production. Are you still configguring your Studio  music first!

I still don't get it. Who or what is Wooding? Sounds a bit rude to me.

I will correct it again, sorry

I am talking about WOODWINGS :D my bad!

Like this one:

I think this is one of the very best in existence, but it is quite expensive too. It is probably the number one, for many good reasons.

I just recently bought Spitfire's Evo Grid 4 which is woodwinds, but not as we know them. Great for modern sonics but not really for standard score writing I admit. I think it's amazing and I'm not even a woodwinds fan (or woodwings or woodings either) :D

 Yes..., sometimes you get a word the wrong way and then it is difficult to get it out as it gets wired into your nervous system! This is my case with “woodings”, which I have been saying the wrong way for too long of a time. At least I haven’t said “pudding”! :P

Well, jokes apart, I am getting into orchestral composition for real. I have done a few orchestral compositions and arrangements in the past but nothing serious, now I have to.

Spitfire in general are amazing products! They are really well-crafted. They create things in a way that will succeed used together in an arrangement, this is their main skill or strength. Anyway, I need a traditional and full woodwinds library.

I went through many videos about the Kontakt woodwinds libraries available, examples, demos, you name it, on the internet. The most representative reality of what a library can or can’t do is found in the compositions of their users, because they don’t hide their weaknesses, they are musicians like you and me. The manufacturer demos are sometimes misleading because they tend to show you what the library can do best, you need to look elsewhere.

I will go with the Berlin one finally, I think it is the best for what I need. The sound is second to none. It is quite expensive, but in the long run, it is better to get everything in a single library rather than buying many "different sounding" libraries, then at the end, you expend more money without realizing it, you slow down your work because you have to search every time this particular instrument you don’t know where it is and then make them match each other with lengthy procedures, this is the worst, your momentum goes down. I am happy to pay for straightforward workflow and simplicity, which comes back as more earnings for you anyway, at the end of the year.

I’m going the Berlin path! This library can do anything and all. I think it is the best in the market so far and way ahead of anything ever created, so I don't even compare it with the rest of the libraries, because this is the real orchestral deal. The beauty of the sounds is so inspiring you really feel the air you can feel when you are in front of a real woodwinds orchestra, it is astounding.

Thanks for your ideas brother :)

I am thinking too... don't want to spend such high amount of money, considering that i will surely upgrade to komplete 12 ultimate (when /if it will be discounted...)
also, there seems to be SO MUCH articulations that i fear to loose myself into them.

... oh, and i have just 12 gb of ram and surely less than 100GB on my SSD... :D

i am currently working with garritan orchestra, kontakt 5 factory library, komplete ultimate 10 and some other specific small orchestral library... don't know if the future musical direction will need this big orchestral library... :-/

... but it's tempting, really...

PLAY WWinds sound great.
I use the cheapest 16bit PLAY stuff to save resources while getting that awesome sampled sound.
Upgrades are usually cheap too.
I just don’t need the extra mics and artics for my needs.

You can get that Wagnerian “Dawn & Journey Up The Rhine” sound.
Fuckin goose bumps...
