a couple of studio photos

Post by garyb »

as some of you may know, i moved to Washington State a few months ago. it's a small farming town just outside Spokane, which is a pretty complete city, so it could be called Convenient Country tm. it's nice.

anyway, i just completed the build-out of my studio in the 29x36 foot shop(9x11 meters). i put in two rooms, 15x20 feet. that leaves me with room for tools, workbenches and amp storage. it's my same old dusty stuff, moved over 1200 miles(1931km) stuffed in the new place. everything was on a minimal budget, so i left it looking like the budget was low. still, i'm very happy with the way it turned out and it's pretty darned functional.

cell phone pics...

Congrads on your nice new studio and its cozy location! Small towns are the best when they are complete enough.

thanks!

i'm only 20 minutes from Spokane, so everything is close enough. we even have sewers and high speed internet. it's not bad for a town of 600. cherry pie from the trees in the yard right now, pears later...

thank you all.

there are too many animals already. lots of birds trying to eat the fruit on the trees, frogs hiding in the garage(which is now a storage shed) and the occasional moose...

it took about a month altogether, but there were delays that took up another 2 months. it's been a somewhat leisurely pace.

Yea, that's what I loved about Washington State. I lived in one of Washington's bigger cities Tacoma and it was like that to. i.e. a field of blackberry and raspberry bushes over here a bunch of plum trees over there an apple orchard elsewhere and empty open fields all around. Tacoma was beautifull for a city with well over 100,000 people (small city relatively speaking). Mount Rainier park, etc.

The only thing I have to complain about is the politics there since it's ran by the far left. You'll probably see ever increasing taxes on everything that comes to the politicians minds e.g. soda tax, gun tax, etc wich seems strange and contradictory since they have no personal-income-tax or corporate-tax but they come with a lot of other creative ways of taxing you wich seems will be ever increasing. That and other crazy liberal policies are my only gripe but this is the case for pretty much every beautiful coastal State. After living in California I'm sure you're use to the insanity :) ..A lot of people have been leaving California, a lot of businesses leaving New York and a serious exodus has been going on in Chicago, etc wich all should serve as good warning signs for other States.

Apart from the crazy politics Washington State is beautifull and has a magic and wonder and mystiq to it. I have a lot of warm and treasured memories from living there as a child. I wish I could've lived there much longer than I did as a child and may one day move back since there was many things over the years I started to miss about it as I got older.

Congratulations Gary! :) It really is refreshing to move town from time to time. Your studio is pretty big for most normal scenarios, very nice build. For some reason, it gives me the idea of a warm place to be in, perhaps the idea of being surrounded by nature helps on this feeling.

I wish you a lot of rewarding recordings in your new place!

yes, catscratch, the glue is nasty, but as you pointed out, OSB is used everywhere, so i just turn on the AC/vent and deal with it. the wood in the control room is sealed with paint, the live room is not.

Wow !
That looks great !
OSB wall covering is an excellent idea,- I´ve never seen that before.

Thx for posting, I´d wish I had that much space available.
Times might change though.

I recognize the HP server ...
Is it for PCI cards or XITE (which, up to now, I´m unable to identify in your racks) ?

B.t.w., that move must have been some herculean task, designing the rooms too ...
I´m impressed !

there are PCI cards in that tower.

i have an XITE-1, too. it's in a seperate computer, but there's a PCIe card in the tower you can see, so i can use the XITE there too. i plan on putting in a toslink patchbay to make integrating the second computer an easier thing.

the choice of OSB was an easy one. i could afford it, compared to drywall. it works just fine.
