I think I will get the Arturia KeyLab 88. It feels nice, weighs only 28 pounds, has 16 touch pads and has sliders, knobs etc.. Coupled with a Surface Pro 5 (which will fit nicely on it), it will be perfectish for live playing. The price is very competitive.

Hi the arturia is certainly a good choice if you tried playing it in the store personally???!!! Have you tried?
Never buy blind. And have you tried to lift it in the store? Somebody told me it is not 13kg but 17 or 18 kg!
Stay critical before you buy! Or did you merry your wife after the firt meeting?
They say the keys are fatar. But what is fatar, can be good or not, depends on your taste.

It's always smart to use cheap available MIDI Controllers for gigs.
I went through 4 x M Audio KS88s over an 8 year period.
Total cost was 1000 bucks.
Which during heavy gigging like 6 nights a week is a weeks pay..

Now I have an incredible controller but if it goes down I can't get a 2nd unit as they're very expensive to stock.
Have a Casio PX-3S as a spare but have to bolster its MIDI with a BCF2000.

You'll like Arturia.
Played their boards before and they don't strive for being different using levers instead of wheels or other silly shit.
And their layout seems to allow note on/off keyswitching a breeze.

Yes I tried it. It didn't feel too bad. It has a detachable shelf and room for gear without the shelf. It comes with Pianoteq 5. I should not have bought that. Doh!

StudioLogic SL88 Studio? $499 USD, 30lbs.

The math is 88 x weight per key + case and electronics.
88 x 3oz = 264oz or 16.5lbs (7.5Kg)
3oz is a good weight for a good feel. Weight, length of key and pivot point are the factors that determine touch.
Not all actions have a return spring especially the grand piano style action which uses gravity.

So weighted = weighty.

BTW I highly recommend the Elka MK88 which I use but these, unfortunately, are becoming rare.
