Use Audio inDSP No Response - Plugiator Tips MIDI OX

Post by samriccijr » Fri Oct 14, 2016 4:00 am

Hi all this is my first post to the Scope Board!

I just purchased a second hand Plugiator with all of the plugins installed. I was able to authorize the factory plugins (Minimax, B4000, Lightwave) under Windows 10 and I can still use the other plug ins (yeah). I got the voucher for the extra plugins but not the authorization keys :(. I get the "Invalid HW Serial Number HWSN" error...

Emails to Use Audio and inDSP go unanswered with no response. If Use-Audio is still out there please help me to register and I would be happy to re-purchase the keys for the rest of the plug ins.

In the meantime, and before the Plugiator re-boots, here are some tips and patches for using the Pro-12.

1: The Pro-12 VSTi plug in works under Windows 10 on my laptop. I only installed the VSTi plug in, the Pro-12 and SAVI host not Plug-in Manager). The VSTIi asks for the plug in on the very first launch and then correctly runs it. I cannot change from Pro-12 to any other program using SAVI Host.

My Desktop Windows 10 machine (which has Plug In Manager installed) loads only the Minimax VSTi (the first one I installed) and no other ones. This might be the Shell.dll or a registry setting.

I found it most stable to run only the host program and to connect a MIDI controller to the Plugiator's MIDI In . I sometimes get stuck notes but a push of the Plugiator's panic button stops that.

2: The Pro-12 panel for Liine Lemur works nicely. Connect the iPad or iPhone to USB and a controller to MIDI in. IOS recognizes the Plugiator!

3: I noticed that the programs and presets are CC and NRPNS. I archived the Pro-12's factory programs Using MIDI OX. Set the ports to Plugiator, Open the View...MIDI status window, clear status, and use the Numeric Knob to select your programs one at a time. The CC settings are displayed. Right click and "Save Snapshot" or File "Save Snapshot". Name it Pro-12 010 Synth Brass... Sometimes I got a sustain loop that is fixed by the panic button. It is best to remove your controller before you archive.

4: Attached are the Pro-12 programs in MIDI OX format. The others are coming. I hope this helps!

Hi...New member here
Old thread I know...but...
Just bought a new old stock Plugiator...luckily I have an old laptop running OSX Leopard and everything works seamlessly. Great machine!!
Lightwave is very under-rated and powerful ( and B4000...just has weak presets)
I would love to unlock the Vocodizer, but of course there is no-one to register the machine with.
Would anyone know how to generate a Vocodizer key with Hardware serial number ??
Thanks in advance for any ideas....also like to communicate with other users of this beast

unfortunately, you can't generate keys.

an older Scope card would be much more useful, although not as powerful. the Plugiator plugins are the same devices as the Scope ones. when Creamware went out of business, the technology was sold to SonicCore, who continued to update Scope. SonicCore was started by the former head of Creamware software development along with the former head of Creamware Hardware development(who went on the start Ferrofish). the former Creamware owner started Use|Audio(and InDSP).

sorry, multiple cards are much more powerful and the cards are generally more powerful, they aren't as convenient used as a synth, as a dedicated hardware box is.

Same problem here :) anyone know how to contact Frank the guy from Use Audio, he might be able to make new keys for the Plugiator?

Did you get any response from Rahul over at Indsp? I don’t even know if he is still there?

I'm fairly sure the Plugiator files are abandonware at this point, so I’ve packed them all in a single ZIP just in case I lose my personal copy or anyone ever needs them. I’ve included host managers for PC, pil files and product keys for download here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1k__2qn ... 9bAG-/view and here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/4dfzs5904jzxos9

I guess I'm a Plugiator fanboy so I'll take a moment to recount my own recollection of events. The story goes like this: Creamware was founded in Germany in 1992. three years later they released their first interface, the TripleDAT, a 2ch card for Windows 3.1 & 95. in 1998 they released the SCOPE PCI card and their first softsynth, the Elektra. Between 1998 and 2003 they developed 10 other PCI cards ranging from the $900 Luna and Pulsar to the $3000 rack/synth Noah, which could run two softsynths at once, or four on the $4000 Noah EX. The Noah was partly responsible for the bankruptcy of Creamware Datentechnik GmbH. I had a blast from the past checking out their 90s websites: https://web.archive.org/web/19980426151 ... are.de:80/.

By 2003 they had developed a large library of virtual instruments including the Vectron, which morphed into the Pro12 and the MiniScope I & II, which evolved into the Minimax. The company resurfaced as Creamware Audio GmbH and over the next two years developed and released the ASB line of hardware V.A. modules based on classic analog synths: the Minimoog (minimax), Prophet (pro-12) and Odyssey (Prodyssey). They where ahead of their time but at $1000 each, they could not bring the company out of insolvency.

Creamware filed for bankruptcy again on 2006. The founders split, each securing the rights to all their source code. One found Sonic Core who took over Creamware’s assets. The other, an engineer, moved to India to found inDSP. I don’t know when “Use Audio” came into existence but I presume it was a shell company established by inDSP for the sole purpose of releasing the Plugiator and ASX card in 2009. I’m speculating but I think Sonic Core went ballistic when the Plugiator was released containing a decade’s worth of Creamware technology inherited from the Scope project and Noah’s architecture, plus eight VST assets packed into a single $489 device.

Use Audio must have withstood a litigious onslaught for two or three years until Sonic Core made it fold and thus the saga of the Plugiator came to an end. Their website was abandoned but it stayed online until mid 2017. inDSP still exists but they removed any trace of the plugiator from their own website.

A couple notable things about the Minimax, first: Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer had this to say about it: "you know, everybody's done models of Minimoogs, but this one — I put it up against my real, slightly ailing Minimoog and it's absolutely identical." If one of the most renowned composers in the world claims it’s a great Minimoog emulator, you damn better believe it. Second: the Minimax was dumped on a tiny ROM chip fitted into the ASB and Plugiator circuits; by 2009 standards, no bigger than 2 or 4mb. To put that in perspective, the latest Arturia Minimoog weights a whooping 310mb. The Minimax ran on 3Mbits of RAM and a 333MHz SHARC ADSP-21364 chip, whereas Arturia’s V3 mini requires 4GB of RAM, 1GB of disk space and a 2.4GHz processor.

Creamware’s engineers where absolute wizards, they wrote some of the purest forms of virtual analog sourcecode ever released on a piece of audio hardware. if and when my Plugiator dies I will buy another one.

I compiled the MIDI implementation of the Useaudio minimax, pro12, prodyssey and FMagia to help me visualize and draw a CC chart with the switches and knobs of the Minimoog interface. I'm in the process of mapping the Plugiator to a Novation SL37 to keep the minimax fully functional and always ready to boot and play. It's worth noting that Creamware ASB synths are the same ones built into the plugiator, but their MIDI implementation is different, the ASB manuals are great to study the Minimoog, Prophet and Odyssey, but their MIDI charts don't work for the plugiator. I'm attaching png files and a PDF for reference since Pro12, FMagia and Prodyssey were ommited from the official UseAudio manual. (backup download link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1I4Rcd ...
