For Guitarists - Gizmotron V2

Post by dante »

As discussed previously here along with the likes of EBow, Sustaine and Resonator - this relic from the 70's - the Gizmotron - (which failed due to manufacturing limitations back then) - is back - due to modern manufacturing advancements.

Played around with it at NAMM.
It felt flimsy and lacked as much subtle control as the original.
Definitely a gizmo though

Right - but it would probably last longer yeah ? That was the whole issue with the original.

interesting. Hard for me to understand why though. Seems cumbersome to the layout of a guitar and the bowed sound can be easily duplicated with modern day synths. I'm a keyboardist not a guitarist though so perhaps this thought comes with the average keyboardist's quest of trying to sound like a guitar

Have you seen this ACPAD yet? Seems like it might be useful to the live performer/one-man-band guitarist

Most bowed instruments use a triangle wave as stimulus, correct? That should be easy to excite the guitar strings with electro-magnetic fields instead of mechanical like this gizmo. I think it would be better adapted to attack/decay times & such as well.
