MIDI Expression Foot Control!

Post by braincell »

http://www.audiofront.net/MIDIExpression.php

I bought this foot pedal converter from a guy in Taiwan. It is $49 + free shipping and arrived in 1 week.

Converts any quarter inch jack foot control pedal to a USB midi signal. It has a free USB plugin for advanced options but I did not require that with Pianoteq, also Cubase has the Quick Controller function if you want to change the controller number.

I got the Roland DP-10 DAMPER PEDAL with continuous control. The purpose for me is for Pianoteq so that my sustain pedal is no longer an on/off switch. I almost wish I had bought the 4 input version of MIDI Expression. I will probably be getting another single input at some point. These would be great for stage performances when you need both hands on your synth.

Tested it out. Both products are superb. Best sustain pedal I have owned. Usually I use the cheap ones. This feels a lot nicer and has a rubber tongue to keep it from slipping away. Yay!

Pedals are crucial for stage.
I use the Yamaha half pedalling sustain now with TRS instead of TS.
On PianoTeq you can can use half pedal for the killer Harmonic Pedal
Which is editable per note.
And also assign sostenuto to half pedal per note.

This means striking a chord with left hand while trilling with the right, will sustain the chord only through note editing, then slam down low octaves.

Youd love the Harmonic pedal tweaks.
And full sustain is smooth even after coming from half pedal.
No need to release just to re engage.

The 4 port USB is really good too.
I had my physis k4 go out and needed to use the usb port x 4 with my casio px 3s to finish the week.
Real life saver and usb midi is surprisingly accurate.

My guess is I tried USB MIDI when it was USB 1.0 and it sucked.
My Intel 875 went nuts too.

Youll like the 4 port.

You can use a tri pedal and a FSwitch on the 4th port for Harmonic.

Pianoteq has no equal when it comes to pedals and controlling them....

I'm already getting a squeaking sound from the Roland half-damper pedal. I read that this goes away eventually. Hopefully it will. The Yamaha model looks like it is identical other than the boxing. Which pedals do you use?

Per note editing is on Pianoteq Pro. I have not bought that and I'm not convinced I need it. Komplete 11 should be out soon and I should be saving for that upgrade.

I use the Yamaha but you will eventually want the per not pedal editing and note editing.

For example their D6 Clavinet is acceptable but works best when you get that 100% open string sound in the lowest octaves, then add muting per note ( uses drawn curves as well) for funky George Clinton-ish stuff.

Detuning an Upright Piano is really good too.

Do you have the Upright Piano...?

I can give my fxp. and it will play the edited instrument and edited tunings, mic positions, etc.
Then compare that to their factory weakness.

PianoTeq is a great instrument to have for covering several instruments.

I remember when Kenny and I and you probably too were BETA testing and listening to demos back in version 1 and it sucked ass.
2 and 3 were coming along but no cigars, but 4 and 5 then the various upgrades are just impressive.

I don't own the upright piano and would rather buy the hang drums. Probably would consider an upgrade to the full version on the next release. Pretty busy with what I have now.

I prefer patching Pianoteq into VSL MIR microphones in the "Stone Room" so I set Pianoteq to mono dry.
