Now, seriously (if you have not mannaged one before), I strongly recommend you to get in touch with how to work with the forum before doing it for real. The best would be to build a fake forum so to experience with it for a few weeks, go through a few tutorials, etc., because with just one single bad move you can create a disaster, sometimes, irrecoverable. This is a BIG forum with a BIG database, so it is important to be carefull about it's contents. I have had a couple of irrecoverable problems with other forums when I was learning, that's why I say so, I have gone through this myself.

Anyway, it’s pretty easy to lean phpBB and quite pleasant too, is so intuitive, but you must know its basics before moving around for real, just my two cents brother

This is a great page for tutorials too, go to Suport > Flash Tutorials, there you'll find easy and clear tutorials to handle the most basic moves.

Gary, as there has been a general consensus about you been the moderator and because I am so busy, and at the same time we did not specified a date for me to go and you to start, I am forced by all I have to do to get off right away. Wow, I am overwhelmed with work, happy for that, but I need to concentrated harder.

Thanks John, most of all for your kindness, this is something I appreciate so much, the way you deal with people in general :)

You have thanked me much in this forum but I have done, in fact, very little (except for the kitchen blast  ), there it is your kindness… In the other hand, you have been always working, sometimes hard, to keep this forum in shape.

I wish you the same my brother, best of lucks in your projects!

Hey Valis,
Indeed- you are still an honorary guard, ever since you helped out during my australia vacation in 2010. Thanks again! :)

Checking back in on this thread again, Gary if you need help with admin duties I've maintained phpbb forums for almost 1.5 decades now. I have done forums for longer (starting with gaming and music interests) and shifted to phpbb for many of these needs when it came out in 2000/2001 (largely because others were languishing, or like vbulletin were trying to commercialize). So I can handle backend assistance whenever needed (as evidenced by for instance John Bowen's forums). I can also host if the situation is ever such that that is needed. Ie, I have moderate to advanced linux/mysql/php skillsets that are at least enough to commit various updates when my free time permits, and keep things relatively locked down from spammers and the like. I love the Z so just let me know if anything is ever needed :)

Thanks Valis! My availability is so limited . Now with Gary taking on moderator role, and you renewing your offer to take on hosting/administration, I think it probably is indeed time to start thinking about shifting these forums to a new home. My main goal is and always has been to keep the site alive for the community, and not see it dissolve.

It's kindof like putting your child up for adoption :) So I want to be sure that you're willing and able to take on the long-term responsibility. If you want to pursue it- get in touch, and we can work out details.

Thanks again!

Ok, might be a good idea to do this around the holidays when I'll have more free time, and hopefully phpbb will get template support in place by then. I just moved JB's forums to 3.1.x to avoid spammer related issues, and I see this is also roughly the same era his was before I moved it. Sadly the template support is not there yet, so makes sense to wait at least until 3.1 template support is in place so I'm not hand coding 2 forums back to where they'd be if template support was in place :) JB's I'm certainly duty bound to fix up since it's rather ugly right now :P

If I would be a frequency wave traveling my way through this room, I would have fun, definitely.

Thanks Nestor for having all eyes on this forum and sharing your soul with us.
More than that, I wish you success and lots of fun on your current way.

cheers
