Is Paypal site down or wot?

Post by hesnotthemessiah »

Now I know it's everyone favourite but I can't access their site at the moment. Am I doing something wrong? Can Paypal not handle the fact that I should actually be getting some money PAID INTO my Paypal account today? :o

Been working here, can hit it via http & https. You can't ping paypal directly (most larger sites reject icmp, yahoo.com is a rare exception) but you can try tracing the route or just seeing if it resolves via your DNS.

open command prompt (start>run>cmd.exe or just type cmd.exe into the ? box if you're vista/win7)
"tracert http://www.paypal.com" (no quotes) <enter>

You'll either see it start plotting out the route, a complaint that the domain name isn't found (DNS server issues) or a possible isp-level redirect for failed urls (I use OpenDNS for my dns servers and always get 208.67.216.132 which resolves to hit-nxdomain.opendns.com as a 'redirected' result.)

64.4.241.33 is paypal's main ip, if the trace starts it will resolve to that.

Thanks for the info. :) Paypal was back up and running when I loggied on first thing this morning. To be honest, I made a complete ballsup using eBay to sell some items. I have only ever sold one thing on eBay before - a van on behalf of a friend where I didn't use Paypal. This time I used Paypal but entered my Paypal email address incorrectly on the eBay site when I put the items up for sale! Had two items sold yesterday only to find I couldn't claim the money because of my mistake. So I had to contact the buyers and let them know my error and they paid me via my correct email address which I gave them. Things is I still have 3 items on eBay for sale with the same wrong Paypal email address. I emailed eBay with the details but I don't have much faith in them. They have no contact telephone numbers that I could find on their site. I Googled a contact telephone number but a £1.50 per minute rate kind of puts me off. These guys are making enough of a fortune with their fees and cut of the buyers' payment's. Their online "Help" system is a joke. Paypal were quick and helpful on the phone but charge an "International Rate".
