GIGSTUDIO LIVES !!!

Post by dawman »

Yes, one of my old favorite developers who left Giga for Kontakt, has now realized just how much Molasses the world of VST added, and has decided to buy Gigastudio and develope it himself.

Garritan......YES.

I really wanted to buy some of his stuff in K2, but then he went on his own using Plogue's ARIA Audio engine ( Bidule ) and now he has both.
I am a lucky Bastard as GS4 is an excellent working 64bit app that will host those VSTi's and actually give them the botton end and high end clarity they lost using the VST format. Mac users should be extremely happy now also.

By next year GS4 and XITE-1 in 64bit using an i7 Laptop is no longer a dream.
This could be the most powerful mobile rig known to man.
Soniccore could squeeze me for an extra 1 Large just for 64bit GSIF 3.0 drivers.

Life Is Worth Living Once Again,................. :D :D :D .

GARRITAN PURCHASES GIGA TECHNOLOGY ASSETS FROM TASCAM

Orcas Island, WA and Montebello, CA (April 1, 2009): TASCAM, a division of TEAC America, Inc. and Garritan Corporation announced the completion of the sale of technology assets relating to GigaStudio, Gigasampler, GVI, GigaPulse and all Giga products.
Gigasampler revolutionized the music industry when it was introduced in 1999 and its importance in the music world cannot be overstated. Giga products enjoy exclusive rights to Endless Wave technology, a patented system which allows large samples to be streamed directly from the hard drive with low latency. Giga became the professional's sampler of choice for many film, game and television composers, including many high-profile musicians. Giga has led the industry throughout the past decade. Garritan also has a history with Giga, and the Giga technology fits into Garritan's mission to revolutionize music technology and provide musicians with the tools needed to make great music.

"After reviewing over twenty companies, we believe that Garritan is the best candidate to carry on development of the Giga platform", stated Derek Davis, EVP/COO of TEAC America, Inc. "Garritan has demonstrated a sincere interest in building on the present Giga technology and taking it to the next level."

"We're very excited about this opportunity and proud to own some of the very best sampling technologies on the planet," said Gary Garritan, CEO of Garritan Corporation. "Acquiring the Giga technology helps us achieve our vision of providing the best tools to make great music available to all musicians."

Garritan will be announcing its plan for the assets in the coming months. For more details, FAQs and information please visit http://www.garritan.com.

I justed wasted hundreds of dollars on ConQuakt 3.0, but since nobody will buy it from me I may as well let Gigastudio host it. At least it will sound better then.
I even put it on ebay for 250 USD and still nobody wanted it ??..#$%^$$ :x
Over a year ago they said it would be 64bit and they still haven't upgraded it.
But it doesn't matter now because Gigastudio bridges everything since it's a host.

Garritan was a great developer for Gigastudio, I still have the ancient GigaHarp from 1999....
He ran into troubles with other audio engines and VST, so this will be a fantastic oppurtunity for anyone Giga....

I doubt he changed his website as an April Fools joke. But it would be an excellent marketing ploy, as the threads at the Rompler Room Forums will be going nuts tonight......
These clowns spend more time chit chatting than performing or recording anyway, so it'll give 'em something to do..

This is indeed good news.

I bought GigaStudio many years ago and it never worked with Cubase VST and Pulsar so I put it back in it's box and forgot about it until about a month ago. Having now got Cubase VST and SFP working nicely, I thought I'd give it a try. Support only just ran out for my version and no upgrade path. I hope I can get a version that is happy working with my setup. I have the Bosendorf piano that I've never tried!

The 290 is a good sounding Piano.
I actually think Garritan bought Giga for it's streaming capability.
All of the other Romplers gag from high polyphony and 20,000 + samples.
Giga can stream more efficiently than any of these other formats, and you'll also notice that in the low and high end it sounds much better.
I use Kontakt for Horns, Guitars, and other VSTi's like FM8 all in the midrange octaves, because as soon as you start getting higher or lower they reveal their shortcomings.
I am not sure if this is from more efficient streaming, etc.
But the fact that Gigastudio can get 600 voices @ 24bit out of a Pentium 4 is a clue to a more efficiently coded app.
Gigastudio is just a great live app too.
I actually use both hands, and lots of these romplers can't handle sustained piano licks w/o having a RAID array or some power boosting OctoQuad CPU.
Scope & Giga are great mates...
