CUSTOM SIDECHAIN DUCKED DELAY OR DUCKED REVERB

Post by dawman »

Keeping 2 views so it's easier to understand.
Otherwise you get noodled layers.

AUX out into Multi FX where your favorite delay or reverb is.
Out of Multi FX into L/R of Compressor.
Out of compressor back into AUX 3.
Now every channel of mixer has ducked effects on AUX 3.

Now take synths or ASIO signals into mixer.
Also route them into Sidechain Inputs of compressor.
Adjust compressor and have fun.

That's slick. Like having a compressor on each instrument/freq range, but getting the glue from a single compressor. Does it take some tuning to match the instruments used, or is it fairly seem less?

You should add a screenshot of the compressor GUI , too, for context.

Nice tip yeah...hold the mix from being clutted with fx.

Might i add that the optimus prime has the vca option for exactly this ;)

Please explain your VCA for me Ray.
I tried the insert approach but I wouldn't get the 8 x Sidechained channels I needed.

The vca is a voltage controlled amplifier..or in other words a compressor. It attenuates the effect when there is input. It lets signal through at the end of a sentence or phrase for example. It's a ducker. With optimus it is not possible to use 8 effects in an insertrack as an insert. It wont save due to a scope bug/limitation.

True about insert/saves, but I used the VCA as you described and it works so well I freed up the AUX 3 and now use the SC Compressor for Reverb.
What's nice is you can really wetter the effect more so the release is the sound you focus on.

Awesome.

Should have known you were steps ahead Ray....

Ankyu.

Just did an outdoor show.
Using DNA subs and RCF arrays and it sounded fantastic..
