How do you automate audio tracks in SPF 4.0?

Post by astro planet »

Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to automate audio tracks in SPF 4.0.
I am using Ableton live 8 as my sequencer.
I contacted support and they told me this, but it doesn't make much sense to me:
"you can automate via MIDI controller right mouse click
on a control. You need to cennect the device to be controlled
with MIDI Sequenzer source and the output of the Device with dest. module.
In Ableton you need to be able to record this MIDI in."

Thanks

Hi,

first question is: do you have a midi controller, or do you just use a mouse?
if you don't have a controller, try this: create a new midi clip in ableton, draw an envelope curve on CC 20 (as an example) and set the output for that channel to your SFP midi port. start that clip (make sure it's the only midi clip running) and switch to SFP. connect your mixer to the Sequencer midi source, make sure channels match, and right click on a fader, you should see a dialogue screen and your CC 20, and click on the icon next to it (not near my music computer so this is from memory). you should see your fader move. do this for every parameter you wish to edit and of you go automating. a midi controller is a good device to have in this situation...

hope this helped...

Do you want to automate in Live, or automate Scope and capture the automation in Live?
From my experience Live really only responds to MIDI controller message coming from a controller that is directly linked to the ports in Live.

Well, I am very new to the scope world.
I would like to play my tracks in Ableton, but be able
to use the scope effects. I would like to automate some of the
reverbs, compressors, ect. I do have a midi keyboard which I use as
my controller. Not knowing much about Scope I am assuming that I could get much more processing power within SPF rather than xtc which I know absolutely nothing about. Again I am completely new at
scope and understand their will be a huge learning curve, but would like to eventually figure it out. I will try some of the tips from the reply's and see how it goes. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't know if Live can handle XTC mode, and besides, Scope is just like dealing with 'external' hardware anyways...

So I would recommend setting up aux channels in Live, and route the channel output to point to any scope module you want - like routing to external audio hardware.

Then you can do the automation in Live's aux channel.
