Scope 5- how to find the files you need from 4.5

Post by dbmac »

I've got Scope5 working so well I can confidently uninstall v4.5.
I used an app called ViceVersa to identify the files I needed to copy from v4.5.

http://www.tgrmn.com/web/file_comparison.htm

There's lots of other apps that do this, but ViceVersa did the trick, and it's free (just need the demo).

Here's what I copied: (not including Devices & Presets)
Scope_4_5\App\Application: 25 mdl files
Scope_4_5\App\Bin: 11 reg files
Scope_4_5\App\Dll: 1 dll files
Scope_4_5\App\Dsp: 150 dsp files
Scope_4_5\App\Script: 2 pep files
Scope_4_5\App\Sys: 10 sys files
Scope_4_5\App\Vxd: Vxd folder & 37 vxd files

All my Zarg, Wolf, STW, SpaceF, GOST, BX-Dig, etc. devices work in Scope5. Onward and upward.

So does this program scan for file size differences? Why would you have needed to copy 150 dsp files? I noticed that a lot of the dsp files for V5 were different so I have manually transfered files across as the device (third party) called for. This is of course a slow way to upgrade but it does provide the benefit of knowing all scope stock devs have correct ie new dsp files. Third party like Adern was easy (installed to desktop and manually copied to new sonic core folder), as was wolf and spacef in this respect.

It does a folder to folder comparison, highlighting files in one foleder only. Identical file names with different dates are also indicated - very easy to see the new versions.

I have that many third party devices with custom dsps. I suspect some of the 150 are no longer needed, and I'll check each one out. My point is, the ViceVersa app lets me identify the missing files I need without doing a mass file copy and pressing "no" 1000 times. Safer, too.
Also, I now have a backup of all my 3rd-party Scope files.

I use Beyond Compare for ALL archive and project folder comparisons across multiple drives and 3 computers.
