Has anyone done any STS Music ?

Post by dante »

I'm thinking of writing an article about STS5000 for ScopeRise. Nowadays everyone has moved on to Giga/Kontakt. So Im trying to find what value STS can still offer in a native/streaming ruled camp. I think the pitch would be along the lines of what STSX000 can offer a Scope user who doesnt need the frills and expense of host libraries/players.

So if anyone has got example tracks they've produced using STS (exclusively or mixed) then I'd like to know.

to be honest I haven't used my STS5000 at all - as far as memory reaches back into the past...
For me the Akai paradigm is simply annoying to say at least :-? :P
But then I recently had some fun cutting bits and pieces with SAW Studio and missed some transposition features.
Rhythmic and 'soundstaging' design went smoothly, but harmonic content and tonality severly lacked.
That reminded me of STS5000 as a near-realtime processor... I'll certainly give it a try.

cheers, Tom

Well I figured out (in XP) how to ForceASPI to read an AKAI sample CD, then copied the sample proggies to HDD using Scope file browser. So that gives me at least a 'how to' to write about.

When I get my baby back and working, I will gladly give my experience and demos on the STS 5000, I started using it before but had to sell my card.

If the STS-5000 is stable under V5.1 like i got it under 4.0, I will run its full course and compose a complete professional song from it solely with effects from scope only(This was my original intent), then we can see what this puppy can really do. I noticed that there are very few people actually using it. I just refreshed myself over the Original Manual, and it is completely setup like my Akai Z4, So I shall have no issues being acclimated. And with that I shall start my new thread.

I have been swirling around in my head to Shoot some youtube footage of me programing my EMU and general music production as a whole, I might just video tape the entire session(s) for my return to Scope using the STS. Then that can give a little more face value to the piece.

Yep a video of STS usage would be fantastic !

In fact, if theres enough new content, Ill make a new follow up article (featuring the video and what you do with STS) rather than just updating the older one....

hay dante

could you write about a best of new vectron patch bank contest

i have been asdding new spectra and have sent the waveforms in for jimmy v and any one else who wanted to use them

ntm then quickly made them into preset user wave files for people to start programming patches straight away

would be nice to get a healthy user contributing patches for a a vote of the best patches

the vectron is a good synth and not utilised enough

and it would be cool to see how different people program there patches and how they go about it

it gives personality of that patch to the personality of the person

and would be great to see how members tick

and get a healthy programming enviroment going on

Yep good idea I'll do a Vectron article in Scoperise - good idea since you and Jav bring its strengths into light.

I'll start a new thread for this - see http://forums.planetz.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=30675

Hey Dante,
i have a track that i actually uploaded to here quite a few years ago. It has STS strings, piano, choir and my own sound, merged with real guitar. I made the samples from a wav sample CD. If you're interested it's called lullaby. Can upload again if it's not there or you would like.

I did use the STS in the past.. probably running on scope 3.1 or 4..

In this track, i created the beats in battery, then sampled the whole beat down to a loop. which i played back on the sts,
added animation of filter and pitch-stretch in realtime.
