Hello,

A Balafon sampling for Creamware STS.

Balafon is an african modal xylophone with clay balls as resonators..

This one is from Ivory Coast, lent me by a friend.

Sampled with Rode NT2 and Apogee MiniMe in Sound Forge.

As balafon is a modal scaled instrument I included a normal and a soft version of 2 types of mappings.

"1" type are the real notes of the instrument mapped on the corresponding notes on keyboard, so there are empty keys in between.

"Ext" type have enlarged zones so all semitones play. I normally use this one.

The sound itself is just as is, very strong transients, so careful with levels, the soft programs are a bit dampened and I prefer them.

3 layers.

Enjoy.

It's a very small package...

Cool

I would add that the natural tuning of this instrument is not perfectly "tempered", so some keys are mapped as the most "near" to what you hear, but the realty is kept.

You can always make new programs in sts, with different tunings etc., but I like it very much as is....it brings you straight in another world...
