I have a powerbook G4 867mhz/1gb ram and I was thinking of getting thinking of getting the pulsar2 card in a magma chassis bay ,ill be using my laptop strictly for the sts5000 sampler triggered by mpc sequencer.does anyone out there know what are my chances of getting any latency ?
please help me before i make this step from my e4xt

STS-5000 is an exception to most SFP devices: the Formant Shifting process is CPU based, introducing ASIO latency to the sampler when the effect is in use. If that is not used, latency will be neglectable. samples are still stored in and read from your computer's memory, read on http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... 96&forum=3, it might improve latency. the olny reason i picked the sts is because the emu sampler is so much of a load to carry on flights including th cdrom drive ,clothes etc.the thing i had to look for in this sampler was portability(powerbook)and easy storage and retrieval.but it had to compete with the e4xt samplers functions.i guess i could master the sts just like my original sampler.do you use the soft/modules from creamware?

Both the "normal" wave osc's and the stretch versions are indeed cpu based, but no where does ASIO come in to the equation.
(You can use the samplers without any asio drivers at all.)
Both types are special scope atoms that communicates directly with cpu/ram/hd via Windows dll's and vxd's, same as vDat, fft's, long delays etc.
The latency is exactly the same, stretching or not. (In theory, and on my system anyway.)
