Tech Report

After endless bitching this review site finally adopted Vinnies DAWBench tests.

So anytime you want to check out ASIO Performance from reviewers who gain nothing from Digital Audio Tests, other than satisfying a niche group of readers, check these guys out.
Can’t wait to see the AMDs this summer.

sorry to disagree, but using the polyphony of a single sampler as a DAW benchmark is pointless to even misleading ;)

When they used NI Kontakt, it depends on if they used "Multi"s or not ...

And more below there are the results running several instances,- no ?

All NI stuff is based on one huge library from which all their instruments and processors draw.
So this is a highly specific scenario - and it completely leaves out different chipset, memory and io configurations.
In the end it breaks down to the same over simplified CPU spec figures we're already used to, but pretends to offer an alternative solution (which I fail to see there)... but I'm not concerned anyway, because I don't use that much native processing, let alone NI ;)

DAW Bench is used for reporting system stats fairly heavily at KVR, Gearslutz and other related communities. While I wouldn't disagree with some of the statements here, the real point is that it provides a consistent baseline of comparison to a wide variety of audio systems out there, and was developed by someone who knows DAWs. Rather than viewing it as a comprehensive benchmark, it should be an indicator of how a new platform being reviewed compares to a wide variety of existing systems, and it does provide some basic insurance that driver/IPC latencies aren't a dealbreaker.

I use it as a “See the CPU before you buy” statistic.
