Q370 w/ i7 8700k

Post by dawman »

I finally see somebody accommodate the 1U junkies like me.
Nothing since C236/Xeon E3-1275v 6, and Z97/i7 4790k era until Supermicro stepped up to the plate.

Not sure I need the bad ass i7 8700k, but this great board with fast i3 8350k Quad would be plenty, and I could buy 2 to make sure I have years of stable real time Audio.
Been waiting for a uATX with perpendicular DIMMs for over 2 1/2 years.
Intel released so damn many chips trying to keep market share manufacturers were not going to risk building something that becomes obsolete within a short time.

We already see last year the i7 6700k discontinued.

So I’ll be a Guinnea Pig for Scope 7/Win 10 and 370 series Chips this summer.

It’s pretty fast with the Coffee Lake CPU.
I didn’t get to load my sampled instruments or VIs as it wasn’t my PC.
But it’s a Windows 8.1/Scope Xite 5 Test where Bidule loaded up a bunch of software synths as he’s an EDM afficiando.
I’ve seen the i3 8350k working too, a very fast Quad.

I’ve decided to go with the i7 8086k delidded by Silicon Lottery.
I’m awaiting a few more parts like the Dynatron L3 Liquid Cooler and CPU.
This time I got the SC 512-441B chassis.

The reason I got the delidded CPU was because of the significant temperature drops using liquid metal thermal paste.
This CPU was binned @ 5.2GHz but @ stock temps I should see 52C for my workloads.
Perfect for long life.
Q370 won’t allow overclocking and is a low watt design with 30 HSIO Lanes.

As far as latency from additional cores it’s my opinion that latency decreases with speed.
At 4GHz it’s as tight as a gnats ass.
