New Board with 3 PCI Slots

Post by Dtrain »

Hi There!

First I want to thank you guys for all the very useful information I found here.
I built my first DAW due to the recommendations from here and mostly to Garys 8) hints. I released several albums with that DAW :)

Now it is time for a new DAW and like all of you, I get lost with all the new chipsets and technologies.
I need a board with 3 PCI-Slots for my three Sope 2 cards. I already figured out, that the new Z370 chipsets are not available with 3 PCI.
What are your recommendations for one step lower Board/Chipset that allows max Performance - since I´m so used to my still good working Scope Cards with their enormus flexibility and the very good sound! - that I don`t want to loose that.

Thanks again

i believe you can find Z87 or Z97 chipset-based motherboards with 3 slots. it will probably be difficult to find a brand new one, but you can definitely find one. all of the boards with those chipsets work really well, afaik. pair it with an i7 4790 and you really won't be giving up anything.

See if you can find one of these:

MSI Z97-Gaming 3
Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H
MSI Z97-G43
MSI Z97 U3 Plus
Asus Z97-C
MSI Z97-G43 GAMING
ASRock Z97 Extreme3

I believe they all have 3 PCI slots and some of them even has room for a double spaced GFX-card.

Yes it will be hard to find new ones - I see petal's list and this takes me back a year or two shopping round for boards with 3 PCI slots. Amazon proved to be good. Another thread here someone mentioned the Gigabyte GA-H170 D3 HP that has 3 x PCI slots but it is a 170 chipset.

If it is typical of the other 1151 boards then the i7 6700 K (Skylake) or the i7 7700 K (Kabylake) would be the fastest i7 CPU's available to this board.

I did read up to 91 W TDP but the 7700 K is 95 W as is the XEON E3-1200 V5 -

When I buy women I often like the ones costing the most too... 8)
Same with narcotics and electronics.
Hell I bought an XITE-1, I’m use to paying more for more.

Hey don't get like that - !!! - I just thought it was a bit pricey - Someone left a link on this thread for Z version of this which is around 100 euros

https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard ... -rev-10#ov

I know you are keen on the AsRock Z97 boards but how many of the industrial boards have you bought compared to the commercial AsRock / Asus etc.....

I didn't see the spec sheets with all the CPU possibilities like on the commercial sites -

Thanks for the other guy leaving a link

H170 so should be good for the PCI cards and maybe even the Xite if the compatibility is improved - It's Ultra Durable, not many chokes / heat sinks but Gigabyte Ultra Durable are good boards are they not?

Server boards about 50% consumer 50%.
Any ASRock with PCI 32bit Slots should be fine as well.
I know of 3 guys using old RME Hammerfall PCI Cards that use ASRock Pro 4 Series.
But IIRC they have only 2 PCI 32bit Slots.

Yeah I do prefer the commercial boards and some are available more cheaply - or a fair price - So recently the Gigabyte H170 D3HP @ 90 euros/USD/GBP - Is good enough and has 3 x PCI slots.

No overclocking on this board, no worries as a 7700K is @ 4.2 Ghz anyway -
