AMD Ryzen PCI motherboard

Some may be interested - some may not be - But there is an Asus motherboard for AMD Ryzen CPU's that has 2 PCI slots -

Asus B350-Plus priced around £100 - It's not the top chipset - But it is a brand new motherboard not yet out that has PCI slots - Who knows it may work - Just a bit of info for those that may be interested

MSI M350 Tomahawk - 2 pci slots

Ryzen isn't out yet [quite] so Supermicro may well do something for AMD

I'm just mentioning motherboards that have PCI slots on as some people ask quite often.

The cheaper chipsets are the ones that tend to have more PCI slots on - But I've seen Asus Z270k Premium with 2 x pci slots on and that is not low end chipset for 1151.

Dante was talking about getting 13 master verbs on P5Q derivative - Not actual P5Q but same generation and on Z87 he got 7 or 8

I've got enough motherboards with pci slots on as long as all the chip sets work - I'm aware 1155 isn't good

AMD have AM3+ [think FX8350] with pci slots on motherboard but someone mentioned it may be similar to Intel 1155 [any ideas]?

Nice price AMD makes a new cockfight with Intel. But yes the question is, does it fit to scope?

The only gripe I have with cheaper chipsets is not less features.
I don't need 16 x PCI-e 3.0 lanes, or 10 x USB Ports or even 6 x SATA.
But I do want a decent PCB that lasts a few years.
One of my favorite things about Supermicro is their quality server ass, thick PCBs.

But since they got no Ryzen B350 I thought I'd just wait.

That didn't last.
My favorite CPU, the i7 4790k, just dropped from 350 bucks to 250.
So I went and bought 2 of them.

My Z97s using 2 x Samsung 850 Pro SSDs is 100% killer for XITE-1.
Ryzen will have to wait.
Supermicro and ASRock Z97s should last years.
In 2025 when using Linux becomes illegal, and Intel, AMD, M$oft and App£€ all force us into new systems every year and a half, I might need my spare parts.

I like things the way they are, and fear change.
These PCs use Windows 7 and 8.1.
Got spare Drives using new CD Keys, so no online anything.

But I would love to get a Ryzen just to see what it does.
Let us know if you get one.

Yes I will let you know if I get one but it could be a while until it's built - It could be an idea to wait for reviews of Ryzen -

I recently got a low end AMD FM2+ socket Asus Crossblade Ranger with an AMD APU 7870k CPU - About half the power of a 4790k and 2 PCI slots on the motherboard - The CPU was around £120 and scores around 5,500 points on some benchmark or other where 4790k scores around 11,000 - If it worked with Scope as well as Z97 then it's great - And it's a low end ROG motherboard with a better BIOS.

It would be awesome if Scope 7 comes out that works with PCI cards & PCI-e [Xite] with bugs ironed out etc..... If not then we'll see what it works with.

All AMD sockets are going to be stopped possibly leaving just the AM4 due to confusion among all the sockets - That's what an AMD rep mentioned on Ryzen launch where they compared the RX1800 vs 6900k rendering the Ryzen logo - Useless info but there you go

Main purpose of this thread was to mention AM4 motherboards with PCI slots - There may be more to follow with the better X 370 chip set

the Ryzen 1700 sports 8 cores @3ghz for 370€ :)
Gonna build a home server..
And report back how scope runs on it

Will you run Xite-1 or the PCI cards?

I'm speculating here [no evidence] - AMD socket AM4 may be similar to Intel socket 1151 - Garyb mentioned that Xite was not good on 1151 / Z170 but was good for the PCI cards.

If you'll be building something specifically for Scope there may be a similarity / repeat of what has already happened on 1151. Obviously I hope this wouldn't occur and what ever you buy will work on Scope

What motherboard will you go with?

PCI cards, but only for test purposes as another pc runs them without issues. So no, not specifically for scope.
It'll be used mostly for machine learning stuff and needs to be able to crunch numbers fast (Ryzen 8 cores) and have as much memory as i can stuff it with (the B350 tomahawk mb 64gb max config is pretty cool).
BUT, since that post I've been looking at used industrial servers that are dirt cheap. So I might not be able to do this at all, sorry.

Yes I was looking at the MSI B350 Tomahawk with 2 PCI slots - It looks good - Asus have one as well B350 Plus or something. The PCI slots seem better placed on the MSI in case you ran a discreet video card - May get in the way not sure.

Did you look at the Asus as well? - Have you got the Tomahawk yet? - Which PCI cards have you got? - Have you got spares motherboards for when PCI is not available?

I got an Asus ROG Crossblade Ranger for the lower end APU / CPU - I'm confident the FM2+ will be as good as Z97 - Just not as powerful. I may be wrong but that's life!!! - But the motherboard is built like a tank - well sort of!

There will be more AM4 motherboards to come out but will any of them have PCI slots? - who knows

When AMD eventually release AM4+ [assuming they'll follow suit from AM3 > AM3+] - Will any motherboards have PCI slots at that point - or are we at the end now? - Again who knows?

Currently there are motherboards with 2 PCI slots like MSI B350 Tomahawk - Asus have an X370 K board [or something] with 2 PCI slots on Z270.

Z97 rules on here though - If Scope 7 never gets released and there are no updates - Then PCI motherboards here in the Scope community will be very difficult to get hold of - Unless some niche manufacturers carry them on!

Yes and it overclocks very well upto 4 Ghz from its base of 3 Ghz - which is 30% [if needed] - Has good temperatures as well - But still may need a good cooler to look after the CPU - If no overclock is needed or desired, no problem.

In fact I will learn to overclock well, then I can also underclock which uses less power!!! - When needed then the average draw is significantly less!!!

Anyhow the 1700 Ryzen is the pick of the bunch due to it's ability to over clock and being £170 less than the 1800 RX but can get 1800 performance on overclock - win win, either way!

Hello ! - I thought I'd get a Ryzen 1700 CPU - But hold off the choice of a motherboard until more of the range is released - I do like how the MSI B350 Tomahawk looks but have enough PCI slots - I'll see what other Asus boards are released such as the ROG boards or if any other X series is released with PCI slots - But I've got enough -

Well Gordon went and got an MSI B350 Tomahawk or was going to!

The Ryzen boards have been coming out gradually now and i was looking for something a little different for the Ryzen 1700 CPU - It may not be a good decision but I've decided to go for a Bio Star X370 GT5 - This has 2 PCI slots and is X370 not B350 but is Biostar and a first for me as I'm usually going with Asus or MSI with Gigabyte on occasion.

There was a picture of the back of one of the Bio Star boards which I think was Z97 and it looked like it was quite sturdily re-inforced which is usually X99 isn't it?

When I get the board I'll report on how flimsy it is or not compared with an As Rock which can be quite bendy ! - So 2 PCI slots on Ryzen AM4

Do let us know about AMD and Scope.
My only concern is these boards and CPUs and Windows 10 only, but possible work around s as always pop up.

Yes of course I will let users here know things as I discover them - It'll be a while though

Are you suggesting that only windows 10 will work with these boards? - and not Windows 7?

If so Scope still works well on Windows 10 doesn't it?

Ryzen 1700 is about the same power CPU wise as a 5820k although a benchmark AMD vs Intel Hi End suggests it's as strong as a 5930k - Then it can overclock easily 20% so a great CPU - And adding another motherboard with PCI slots even though it is a BioStar [LOL] - But it may end up being really good - It seems the people that don't have them criticize them - Some of the people that have them don't seem to have anything bad to say about them.

When it arrives I'll comment on the build quality

I think I'm going to get an MSI Arctic Tomahawk.
Ryzen 1600X too.
Urs from u-He says the Ryzens are bad ass.
I believe him so since the B350 has PCI Slots maybe GaryB has a card to check out while he builds this one.
That would be great news if XITE-1 and Scope PCI both worked.

Intel changed so much in their chips and BIOS nothing past Z97 works for me.

i7 4790k benchmark

Ryzen 7 1700 benchmark

Ryzen 5 1600X benchmark

Just a rough guide - Apparently MSI B350 Tomahawk can overclock Ryzen 7 1700 to 3.9 Ghz if that's your thing. This is just under 30% so roughly add 30% to the passmark and there you have approximation of total raw CPU power.

If not overclocking it's an equivalent to a 5930 K approximately

The 1700 is better value from what I've seen - The price on Amazon fluctuates - On one day the price drops by £!00 just for a day! - I'm not kidding - keep an eye out seriously!

It would be great if they work with PCI and Xite-1 but how will this be? especially when other sockets have not worked. Will there be or is there similarity to Intel socket 1151 for AMD socket AM4?

Please explain what happens when it does not work eg - PCI controller or what ? or pci-e implementation - I'm mystified!
