Z87 & Z97

Post by fraz »

Hi,

What are the differences between Z87 & Z97 - Z97 is 1150 whilst Z87 is also 1150. Are the improvements very small?

Example is I've got an Asus Z97-AR which has a thunderbolt header for connection with Asus Thunderbolt II EX card. The Z87 Pro V Edition motherboard also has a thunderbolt connection header and is the same 1150.

The mind boggles sometimes with all the huger quantity of motherboards with very little differences between them. I'm interested in reading others' thoughts on this

I think the biggest difference is Z97 added mSATA and M.2 interfaces for SSD drives.

Otherwise they're very similar.

Z87 Pro V Edition had 8 sata 6 gbs ports - still socket 1150 - I saw one online and thought it was older than what it was. It's about 3 years old or so and has a thunderbolt port but it's not in the manual as it was new technology
