PCI speed on different CPU sockets

Post by fraz »

Hi,

I was reading somewhere here on Planet Z from one or two of the members that some socket types are better than others for use with the Creamware / S|C PCI cards- I'll start off-

Socket 775 CPU Intel Q9550 [old now]-Asus P5Q - Chipset = P35 / 45 ???

Socket 1155 Intel i7 3770k Asus P8 Z77-V-LE / P8 Z77-V-PRO

Socket 1150 - CPU i7 4790k Asus B85 Gamer Pro - 3 PCI slots - This looks really good but cannot over clock which I'm not bothered about anyway - Also other good mobo's like Z97 [1150]-

Socket 1151 - B series [may be others have PCI slots too - Any thoughts comments? - Useful insights - Thanks

Gary B commented that 1155 do not work with the PCI cards [something to do with the PCI-e to PCI bridge

I'm keen to have a computer to fall back on for the PCI cards if anything goes wrong - The LAN connector on the P5Q socket 775 has stopped working for example so I have a PCI-e LAN card to get online for authorizations etc....

1151 is to replace 1150 - Any thoughts on this for PCI cards -

Its just to cover the bases - PCI slots are being phased out is what I heard ages ago but with 1151 the PCI slots are still appearing on new motherboards - Its all about the bridge and quality of for general use -

1150 works great.
dunno about 1151. i don't know anyone who has tried it yet.

775 and 1366 also work well. avoid 1155.

Interesting!

What's the best CPU Mobo combo for 3Pci setup guys?

Thanks.

100% I'm not sure - Asus is all I knew so thats what I got - I've just built a computer this year very slowly from scratch which I needed to do - and having spoken with others I have learned that Gigabyte are good boards as are MSI.

Personally I'd stick with the mainstream boards but there are some good boards available that are specialist that some people here use.

As I'm learning more I can say I have bought an Asus B85 Gamer Pro board at around £85 on socket 1150 and is cheaper than say other Z97 like Asus Z97-AR or Asus Z-97 PRO [sorry if I make mistakes on names]-B85 is budget board and cannot overclock Z97 but I'm not concerned about overclocking - Also there is integrated graphics which require a better CPU so think Intel i7 4790k and then integrated graphics work better.

I also got an LGA 2011 with i7 3930k a thunderous performer that can house upto 64 GB RAM which is awesome but you need a CPU cooler as one is not included as stock [the little fans]-which is an extra expense - Also no integrated graphics which is why 1150 is really good-

So Asus, MSI and Gigabyte maybe the best???? - Any thoughts from others??? - Certainly Intel all the way although part of me would like AMD to provide good competition but from what I've read is not the case- Please correct me if this assumption is wrong

It would be good to know what the improvements are from 1151 over 1150 - Tech changes so fast its unbelievable and can cause frustration as the next socket type 1151 is not compatible with 1150 [this is usually the case]-

What would be the real world difference for the end user? - eg us here on Planet Z using a combination of PCI cards or PCI-e for Xite-1 / D?

This is what I'd like to know - Thanks

Actually after a quick Google I see the support for DD4 RAM - There is also mention PCI is not supported but vendors [Asus etc...] may implement them using external chips - Wiki is above for any other anyalysis for others here

XITE-1 works on the newer Skylake.

I burn up motherboards way too fast these days.
MSI X-58 was a good durable build.
But i7 3770 i7 4790 boards both forced into back up BIOS prematurely.

Decided to read about the excessive testing on Supermicro C7H170.
Saw guys using i3 and i5 CPUs at 5GHz.

Built this beast that runs cool in a 1U.

Supermicro C7H170 m
I5 6500 ocd to 4.1ghz
64gb ddr4 2133 c15
Samsung,950 pro m.2 ssd
2 x mydigitalssd slims
Windows 10

Loads fast and has every sample library I own loaded in RAM.

1500 BUCKS....!!!!

No. But a Gamers Tower could fix that.
I use dual 22k intake fans.
The 350 watt PSU and 1U HSF are quiet.
The intake fans make my vacuum cleaner take 2nd place.

Ah I see your logic now - A small case, not much inside it so no need for a big PSU but how much RAM could fit inside a 1U rack case?

& a quick Google -

Yes something like this does look good - Ideal for a 32 bit machine - NAS on a LAN overcomes the lack of storage space etc.....

Yepp.
I dont ever see any benefit with faster RAM.
Idun everything low watt.
I do OC my CPU but still never get close to the watts of the "locked K" chips.
Intel is full of shit.
I have run low watt 3770 and 4700.
Weren't suppose to OC these chips but I always got 3-400mhz extra by a simple bump.

I'll post some pics in 2 weeks.
Plenty of room in a 14vinch deep 1U.

I actuallh left the PC running now for 5 days doing a looped bench test.
Not Prime but a mixed set of Cinebench and Open GL stuff to burn in my chips.

doesnt the integrated grafix on the 1150/1151 boards share ram, occupying the bus constantly (i know: not the pci bus)

can the grafix chip on these boards be disabled reliably (winXP)

any suggestions on amd boards with 2 or 3 pci slots?
i dont need 10 reverbs, just plenty of channels and i/o`s with 31 ch eq, comp, dimension

i`ve been running a m4a89td pro asus board (2pci) for the last 6 years. supposedly it`s ultradurable copper caps promise 50000+ hours. since it`s running 24/7, i`m @ 53000+ hours now with moderate oc. how long can it last...
really wish i could get one new now.
of the ten or so boards i went through, definitely the best i ever had. haven`t seen a direct successor board yet.
