Z-Link & Luna Compatibility

Post by Raphaelg »

Dear Fellow-Scopers,
are there any compatibility issues with respect to z-link and luna box?

Which configurations are going to work:

1) Luna IO-Box + Pulsar with Z-link ?
2) Luna IO-Box + Xite?

Which is the best option to expand an Xite with AD-capabilities?

Thanks & Best Regards

Any powered Z-link connector can be used.
So any PCI card with Z-link connector works.

But the XITE-1 Z-Link connectors were just designed to work with the A16U (which as a seperate power supply), so the sadly the Luna I/O box do not work with the XITE ...
Best option for the XITE-1 is the A16 Ultra to get 16 I/O and any other ADAT converter for expanding the rest.

The XITE provide 36 I/O:
- the 2 analog I/O provided by the 2 built in XLR analog I/O on the rear
- the 2 digital I/O provided by the digital AES/EBU connector which require a converter to get in the analog world
- the 16 digital I/O provided by the ADAT which require a 16 ch ADAT to analog converter to get in the analog world
- the 16 digital I/O provided by the Z-LINK which require a Creamware A16 Ultra converter to get in the analog world

Xite-1 also additionnaly provide 2 Mic/Preamp inputs and a stereo headphone outpout on the front panel which are missing on the Xite-1D

thats because the power for the external box comes down the fire wire cable

it would be easy to make 2 track cuts and fit a dc socket so an external dc psu could be used

as the luna box has inbuilt power regulators

and the power to it comes from the luna power regulator on the pci card via the firewire cable

it would mean that to work with both it would need to use the external psu
