Check -> SM lga 2011 socket MB with native 3 PCI here...

Post by endre70 »

Hi all

It's that time again. Need more power and are seriously considering the following:

http://www.supermicro.nl/products/mothe ... srh-7f.cfm

Is there any reason why this shouldnt work with my 2 x scope cards?

And which CPU is recommended? and why?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_2011

Other things to consider? Thoughts in general?

Hopefully the E-Ivy Bridge for 2011 socket will come soon. 2de quarter of 2013 I hear... And from my understanding the most valuable feature would be: "Ivy Bridge will dynamically allocate resources to threads so that if there is only a single thread active, all resources will be dedicated to that thread rather than some going unused as with SB's static allocation." - ( as hypertreading is a no option for us Scope users.) Taken from http://www.techspot.com/guides/502-intel-ivy-bridge/

Thank you!

that might work well, no one has tried it to my knowledge.

in general Supermicro is top notch. i can tell you that the 1366 XEON would definitely work.

Cool Garyb!

Yes. I also considered this 1366 board: X8DA3 - http://www.supermicro.nl/products/mothe ... /x8da3.cfm
and this 1155 board: X9SCA - http://www.supermicro.nl/products/mothe ... /x9sca.cfm

both with native PCI support.

But the 2011 board have more future options..

so far, the 1155 boards have all been a big disappointment.

i've used a version of the x8D board and i can tell you that it's the bomb.

Yes I've read that. I thought it was due to the lack of native PCI..anywho.. I wont go near it...
