hoi, i´m thinking of buying the elitegroup sis735-board. together with an 800mhz-duron it´s at 150 €, and it has both ddr- and sdr-ram slots. the main reason would be the better pci performance.
i know there is at least one in our community who already runs pulsar (or similar) on that board, and i´d like to hear some more people telling their experience.
i´m satisfied with the pci performance of my bx-board, so my reason to switch to amd are the unreasonable prices of intel processors since months... and i don´t want to run a celery, that would be not appropriate to my (four years old) high-performance chipset BX  ... no, seriously, i don´t want a celeron. and the p3 (which gets outperformed even by the duron with its 64k 2nd level cache in some apps) won´t get much cheaper. and intel´s northwood will let us wait.

so... is it a good board for pulsar? please compare it to the i815 solano or amd´s 760... especially in terms of pci performance.

thank you,
Mo

thanks miguel, have already read it. that´s why i asked...

here in germany this board is less than 90 €, so it´s not that expensive just to try.

i´ll try  when i have more money than i need to get some food and stuff... : in october. i´d guess, untill then there is also an asus board with that chip, which is not that expensive also (because that chip'set' allows very inexpensive board designs).

gruß,
Mo

According to Aces Hardware, it may be a good idea to wait a little longer, as there seems to be some (minor) problems.

Check for yourself : http://www.aceshardware.com/#N55000338

thanks for the link, stubbe.
yes, i already thought it would be better to wait for the asus board... i hope it´s not that more expensive.
i´m also extremely curious for the nForce420-boards...
anyone knows news about the status of them?

please have fun
Mo

The eagerly awaited nforce mobo's are also a bit stuck in the pipeline according to X-bit labs, at first it should be launched end of august/start september, now it seems more like october, atleast according to this link:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/story.html?id=998457333

I read somewhere that the next nforce chipset will be due Q1-2002 and will be even more extreme. Seems they keep us waiting for all eternity for *the* machine

You can comfort yourselves with the probabillity that a delay at this late stage will iron out more early bugs

 i just fear i can´t afford this desire...

btw, do you think intel will ever lower the price of the ghz-p3 again, before it´s not available anymore? here it´s since months at nearly the same price... meanwhile even the p4 has become cheaper... annoying

 nasdarowje,

 look what i´ve read:

<font face="times new roman" size="4"><i>
Datum: Thu, 23 Aug 2001 12:18:39 -0700
Von: "Scott Reams" <scottreams@home.com>

"According to the China Times, the SiS 735 chipset may be short lived. The article is in Chinese, however the summary of it is basically this: The SiS 735 chipset does not have very good yields, and is picky to 266 FSB settings and to certain memory modules. It is also known that VIA will soon be releasing an "enhanced" version of their KT266 chipset which will provide for performance equal to or surpassing SiS 735 at a similar cost. Because of these problems and Taiwan motherboard manufactures already established close relationship with VIA, many are postponing or dropping their SiS 735 products altogether. Only ECS continues mass production of this board and Chaintech in smaller quantities."
</i></font>
hmm... i think that i´ll wait for a cool nForce-board. or save money for a dual-athlon board from tyan.
