Masterverb Test Thread
My Creamware cards are currently housed in a separate PC which sits next to my main DAW connected via adat, analog, aes/ebu, midi etc. Since I'm sometimes too lazy to turn around to the other monitor I typically use Remote Desktop to interact with the scope machine.
Scope box:
1 Pulsar2 & 1 Pulsar1 (10 dsps)
Asus p2bf (bx chipset, 100mhz fsb)
p3-733 running @ 700mhz on slotket adaptor
1 network card, 1 IDE HD (40gb), Nvidia Gefore2 Ultra gfxcard & 1 plextor cdrw (floppy drive removed)
testing with default project (all i/o for both cards, sequencer remote and a micromixer):
Remote desktop> PCI overflow @ 11 Masterverbs (due to network card on PCI bus)
Interacting normally (not remote desktop)> Reload dsps on 13th Masterverb works fine, no PCI overflow.
testing with empty project:
13 Masterverbs again, 14th gives dsp overload and reloading doesn't allow 14th to fit.
ALso might mention that the Geforce2Ultra tends to set itself to pci latency of 248 with any Nvidia driver from the last 4 years. Doubledawg would probably be necessary during testing if I had any more dsps. My Matrox g400 bit the dust a month or so ago, I might buy one again as it allows disabling of busmaster completely in the driver options.

motherboard: Asus A7N8X
CPU: AMD Athlon XP2600
graphics: ATI Radeon 9600 pro
RAM: 2x 500 Mb PC2700
Pulsar I, Powersampler.
I can load 3 (!) MV's only. And in an actual project with other devices and Cubase running it is often impossible to run a reverb at all because of PCI overflow!
I thought it was the old Pulsar I board, but reading this thread it seems that some people are getting decent results with combinations of 1st and 2nd generation boards, so maybe the mobo has something to do with it.
Do i need to upgrade my computer or my Pulsar??

This info might help you a little King of Snake, as we have the same mobo. More DSPs, but you'll still be able to see what can be had on the A7N8X.
1) Asus A7N8X deluxe, 2200XP, 1.5gig crap ram.
2) 2xPowerSampler, 1xPulsarII, 12 DSP total.
3) NVidia GeForce FX5200
4) 14 Masterverbs, DSP O/L & PCI O/F on 15th.
As alfonso requested, that was in an empty enviroment, but for the record, we also got 10 Masterverbs in our current default project which includes an STM2448, Meterbridge, Control Romm, VDAT, VRC-S, Optimaster & all the adat, z-link, asio routing modules etc etc.
Hope that info helps someone.

you have to set the Powersampler as 'master' Scope card - if it doesn't show up as #1 in the DSP list you could modfy cset.ini accordingly by the statement 'boardid0=1 boardid1=0On 2006-01-14 01:44, King of Snake wrote:

with a Pulsar One as master you can under no circumstances get beyond 5 MVs
cheers, tom
It's because the number of CW cards also has an influence on number of reverbs you can load, not in term of DSP power, but in term of memory available on the cards. While it's not used to calculate reverb per se, it's used to setup the ram <-> card interface. On 2006-02-18 06:37, Shroomz wrote:
That's a weird result we got when compared to some of the significantly faster systems on this thread. Wonder why that is ... ?
At least that's my understanding, I don't know the specifics at all, and this is just from observation. On my system I definitely run out of DSP memory before I run out of DSP power/PCI bandwidth, but I can still load other devices besides reverb fine. If you look at the different results people posted here, you will see this trend appear also.

20 MVs in an empty project!!!
New DAW built by AndreD
P5AD2-E Premium
Prescott 640 (3.2 GHz)
2 GB RAM, virtual memory disabled
Scope Pro
Matrox P 650
Computer is designed only for audio, MIDI, writing notes.
No internet, no LAN, no background activities like antivirus etc.
Downloaded files I check on a second computer at first, then I transfer them to my DAW via PC-Linq.

system I
Asus p4p800 p4 3.0GHz 1.Gb MB
Scope pro + 2X project
Matrox P750
15 masterverbs pci overflow on 16th
System II
Soltek P4 2.0Ghz 1,0 GB ram
Scope pro + project
Matrox G550
only 9 masterverbs pci overflow on the 10th
now the question is what can I do about it?
buy an other mother board?.
system III
I will do later because it's at an other location.

15 Masterverbs is a very good performance, the Herr Voigt's P5AD2-E Premium is an incredibly expensive motherboard on a very well tweaked system, 20 MVbs is an exceptional performance..On 2006-02-23 03:40, virtualstudio wrote:

Could you tell me if you just have Masterverb in project only and nothing else running.
Thanks

What type Pulsar cards do you have on P4P800 system? Is it SE board? On 2006-02-23 08:03, virtualstudio wrote:
I know 15 is good result.
but the 9 in the soltek is not very good.
I've just re-installed this system after my HD died. I know it needs some more tweeking because before it did better on the test.
I have Pulsar 2 and two Pulsar 1s and can only get 8 running.Would Pulsar 1's affect PCI performance?
What tweaks do you have for P4P800SE?
Interested on how you got 15 running.Must mean my board's not been tweaked up to it.
Thanks

Music Manic, the board is P4P800 (not de luxe not SE)
my pulsars are PulsarII
the CW boards are in slot 1, 3&5
I've HT disabled and onboard audio disabled in the Bios. for the rest did most of the performance tweaks found here on PlanetZ
