Bring out your aggression! (request for demos)
Re: Bring out your aggression! (request for demos)
If you want agressive sounds, just try some FM patches. It won't get more nasty than that!

Really? I saw those and I have to admit I'm perplexed at who they're aimed at. They sound OK, but I imagine you'd be better off using a VSTi or Scope instrument for such things.tlaskows wrote:Awe damn! Roland is starting to read my mind!

Yeah! Now we're cooking with gas. Or... I should say G.A.S. That's more along the lines of what I was thinking... though I've kind of restructured my thoughts a bit since my original post. I'm going to keep at least one dyed-in-the-wool analog that excels in what I'm talking about. Probably my Neptune 2. This way I can go forward not obsessing about this. Even if I find it sonically redundant, there is the fun of working with an actual hardware interface. Also, in the virtual world I already have a few synths that do a fair job of what I'm talking about and it's not like I'll lose them. So, I should be set.

Yeah, those Roland boxes look too much like something meant for a DJ. I'll wait until they release a proper VSTi.

OK not particularly aggressive (a little bit at the end), but I just knocked up a quick demo of proTone which you were interested in. I only used instances of proTone (a lot of instances) to create this track.

thát's a good demo, of the proTone at least!
Re: Bring out your aggression! (request for demos)
Very nice demo! I always liked the sound of proTone and Pro One.

Thanks for the thanks. The pitch bend is controlled by my Kurzweil ribbon. It was actually inspired by seeing Gary Numan three times last week who used a lot of pitch bend on his early music. The end section is pretty much a rip off of his tracks M.E. and Observer. I even called the bass preset Observer.borg wrote:that pitchdrop sound just made me want to see Bladerunner... I have some ribbons on some of my keyboards, but I haven't found a good use for them yet
Yes, you can assign it to whatever you want, I guess. I find myself using the wheels (3 of them on the EX5) and the AT a lot more. I actually like to set up the vibrato to AT instead of the wheel. Yes, I'm weird

Some Flexor modular tweakage from 2003. Drums are a bit naff, but the synth is damn snappy.
Re: Bring out your aggression! (request for demos)
check out the free Wavelength synths. they were on some Nine Inch Nails cuts because they're nasty.
Re: Bring out your aggression! (request for demos)
scope modular with flexor is very very powerful. just strap together an osc with another doing a bit of fm and bring out some of the gnarly filters and distortions from flexor currently working on an all modular track (actual music not drones) but will take some time before it is available online

I don't have Flexor yet, but it's on my list. Hoping maybe some Santa-cash comes my way in conjunction with a Scope-store sale.faxinadu wrote:scope modular with flexor is very very powerful. just strap together an osc with another doing a bit of fm and bring out some of the gnarly filters and distortions from flexor currently working on an all modular track (actual music not drones) but will take some time before it is available online

first thing to buy and to me also the only real "essential" thing to buy for scope is flexor.

Re: Bring out your aggression! (request for demos)
Method to reach the maximum aggressive listening experience ever, with any synth:
A couple of metal tweezers
A new truck battery
A cattle prod
A stink bomb
A handful of tacks
A synth of choice
First you smash the stinking bomb into the floor, then attach the tweezers to your nipples and connect them to the battery. With a little effort, reach for the cattle prod and use your imagination… then stand into the handful of tacks you have just spread into the floor barefoot and finally, play your preferred synth with your patch of choice, it is guaranteed to sound aggressive no matter what you play, it always works! People say to have reached great results even with the synth switched off, so effective this method can be

Nice one!catscratch wrote:I took a perfectly clean dub mix and abused the hell out of it with interpol and got some aggressive tones that I like. Many would say that I went too far. I hear the clipping but I don't really mind it. Maybe I'm not well, but I can live with that for now.

Just wait till I build my Mad Mouse Pro and we'll see how she sounds. May have to put it thru a guitar amp
