Bring out your aggression! (request for demos)

Post by zerocrossing »

It turns out getting an XITE-1D will take a long time to ship for some reason (according to Scope). I kind of want to get to where I'm going to, if you know what I mean. (see also: G.A.S. ) I can get a 1 right away, but it will mean ditching some more hardware that I was planning on keeping. One of the things I love about the analog synths I have is their ability to do things like osc feedback (Pulse 2, Novation Bass Station II via headphone out) and audio rate modulation. (Neptune 2, BSII and Pulse 2... ATC-X does cross mod) Oh, also analog distortion on the output is nice.

While I've heard many amazing sounding demos of Scope synths, I don't think I've heard any that really highlight those types of aggressive tones. I own Diva and it does OK audio rate filter mod and feedback, but it's very polite compared to what I'm talking about. What I'm talking about:

https://soundcloud.com/type-56/riptide

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgkRLVq ... 3314650477

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpOu3e35H98

I'd love to hear demos showcasing the more aggressive analog tones such as some of the sounds heard above if anyone can point to some. Thanks.

Not sure about aggression, but one of my fave showcases involving Scope/XITE is this Group Of Light Dubstar From Heaven video.

Thanks for that, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I think I may have figured out my issue though. By keeping my Bass Station 2 and a couple of others I should have that aggressive sound covered in case I can't find it in a Scope instrument.

Actually, what this kind of brings up is another issue. Considering the cost off the Scope hardware/software, I'm very surprised there aren't more Youtube and Soundcloud pure single instrument demos. I bet sales for the XITE would spike if Sonic Core put out a concerted effort to really showcase each individual plug in, or at least the major ones, on Youtube. I'm surprised at how each plug in page only has a handful of audio demos. It's really a shame.

I totally agree with you ! (See the other topic about that...)

Anyway, I went to listen to some of your links. And if I understand well, you'd like to know if you'll be abble to produce agressive sounds like in your examples with Scope.
--> Answer : believe me, it's not a problem at all to make that kind of sounds in Scope !! You'll have modular II & III and if you like, you'll can buy Modular IV and Flexor (2 other module collection but not free) and you'll have a crazy arsenal to make such sounds ! You'll have 2 completly free module collections : BCmodular + CWmodules = hundreds modules to tweak and make as agressive as you want Walt Disney Snow White voice.
In fact, with Scope & modular, you'll be able to produce any sound you want, as simple as that. But I don't know if you know modular synth very well or not, if you don't, you'll have to spend some time to learn about. And here, on Z and on BCmodular forum, you'll find any help for improving your knowledge.

My modular module collection is 1722 modules at the moment But I kept the ancient CW & BC too ! And don't forget that Modular is not only a modular synth : it has audio input, so you can build your own fx processor with 3ms latency and connect at its input asio, Scope synth, Scope analog input, whatever outputing audio in Scope !!
I often use Modular to process my Supernova sound (which is already awesome !) !

I think you can find Faxinadu Scope & Modular reviews on youtube, if I'm not wrong.

Yes, Faxinadu has some tutorials on youtube on how to use the modular. He seems to know his stuff very well. I think I watched the one of cloning a Nord Lead 2 or something in Modular. Cool stuff.

Two vids of my most favorite/used scope synths:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtsaPlTY0Yk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pISNlrHPF8k

(PS why not make a "sticky thread" with an overview of all scope/soniccore related videos in the 'general discussion'. This would also be a good source for information for new users)

Also user Klartraum has some really nice videos with xite-1 in his setup:

Not sure if this is what you are asking for, but I did this track with a simple 3 operator FM synth build in scope. It's kind of aggressive:

Yeah, that is close. Maybe what I'm really looking for is the minimax using it's 3rd osc to modulate the filter at audio rates. I wonder... Has anyone put it up against Monark? To me it's the gold standard of that type of sound in a native plug in.

I gotta step out, but I will play around with all the synths later and see which can do a good audio rate modulation...

Oh, by the way, was that recorded with the XITE running at 48 or 96 khz?

How is this for aggressive sounds:

http://www.thomaslaskowski.com/wp-conte ... tches_.mp3

But this is a really famous synth, not scope. Sorry I found this from my old backup. But is this what you are looking for?

Cheers,

Ah crap. The mp3 compression totally distorted the sound. Too many frequencies?

That's a Jupiter-6, it has some crazy filter. I'm waiting for Roland to release it as a plugin :D

I sold mine 10 years ago or so... Now the price is through the roof :o

The Prodyssey didn't seem to be able to do it.

But I am playing with the Minimax to get you some filter audio rate modulation. I'm trying to make it sound nasty, but it's tricky.

Will put up some demos a bit later.

The CVM Synthi can be pretty aggresive, hand is fun to experiment with. see http://forums.planetz.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=29400 , there are snippets in first post and some aggresiveish demo at http://forums.planetz.com/download/file.php?id=7933 (from page two in that thread).
