Remained At Large

Post by hubird »

a new mix of a song by my two older friends who are trying to compensate for their buzzy bussiness life...

'De Dans Ontsprongen' = 'escaped from the dance', meaning 'remained at large' or 'gotten off scot-free'.

This time I kept the original (simple 4/4) drumcomputer beat but I edited it a bit to get some variations, i.e. by copying the hihat track and delaying it with a 8th note length to speed it up, and adding some kicks in between the ridm to make it a more natural pattern.

'Hurray, I remained at large, Disappeared are de devilish doves, Never I shall awake again from a nightly pray', Desert on my face, read: a heavenly poem', etc.
A hymne to a newly acquired peace of mind...but not really.

A strange combination of feel good guitars and dark sceptical lines of a positive hypochonder.

enjoy :-)

And enjoy I did.
Which Drum box were you automating...?
Nice ideas too, but tell us the devices, etc.

@Jimmy, dunno what drumcomputer they used, I get only the audiofiles for each track, sent to me by YouSendIt.
But I'l check it out.
The drum was hardly more than a kinda extended metronome, no variations, no stops or track mutes.
These guys don't know much about ridm, which allows me to do what I want.

There's a simple synth involved also, for the 'flute'sound played loud after the break.

Remaining several guitar tracks, and doubled voxes from the same person, main and backing.
In the break part there's also guitars, slide playing.

Mixed in Scope, a lot of eq, compressors, Vinco, and the usual master plugs.
Glad you liked it :-)

@ Roland, track is full audio, no mp3.
should work tho :-)

That's really good man!

I had to listen to it twice. And now I'll listen again!

It would suit the later Sonar Kollektiv stuff.
Not because it is easy, but because it is hard...

I'm sorry to say it is not my kind of music.
But it was recorded nicely. At one point the solo guitar was masked by the accompanying guitar.
The text (Dutch) is a kind of funny!
The middle piece, the bridge I liked most. The slide guitars.
Well played.

Hi Roland, could you tell me at what point? I know you're a bussy man, but If you move the cursor over the file it shows exact times.
Glad you got Soundcloud working :-)

I listened it with my laptop speakers and some of the higher freqs of the guitars where not transparent.
Just before the brigde and in the beginning of the outro.
Maybe the rhythm guitar could use a fanger. Special heavy flanging in the outro.

the guitar accompanying the voice befor the bridge is indeed more dull than average.
It's the player's choice, or the result of his effect chain, dunno.
I tried to improve it but there's nothing in it :D

Not sure which second guitar then is masked.

In fact all recordings from the guys are dull as hell, due to the bad converters of the Yamaha digital 12 track desk recorder of less than 1800,- euro new. I did a recording test at my place, to be sure.
I hope they will follow my advice to buy a better interface and record directly on disk through their Cubase.
I have to cranc up all highs so much, it makes the sound a bit dirt and phasy.

Lo fi definitely adds to the track. Shiny digital clarity wouldn't suit the mood..
