Freeware - Midi Notes to CV keyboard (1v/oct)

Post by spacef »

Hi,

This device requires an AUDIO to CV converter.

----> video in action: https://youtu.be/9AkrhXF6HDk

It is an extension to KrOn CV/DSP Sequencer , but can be used standalone.

The interest of this device is to use the audio-to-cv converter for midi, allowing *NOT* to buy a MIDI to CV converter (converter+cables+various modules=around 150/200 euros). It is better used with devices that do not have midi, such as an eurorack oscillator with a CV input to control the pitch.

This device converts incoming midi notes into 1v/oct format. It also includes Portamento from 0.1 ms to 2 seconds, and pitch bend fixed to -2/+2.

I have used Expert Sleepers ES-3 as a conversion hardware for "Adat to CV". It is possible that other converters use a different tuning, eventhough should generally work.

It is 1v/oct, mainly done for eurorack oscillators, and will not work with most korg synths that use 1v/Hz (except0 Korg-Arp Odissey which is 1v/oct for example) . The newer version of those synths already have on-board midi so it is really for CV-oscillators.

3 modes:
1/ chain to CV: used to chain to a KrOn Pitch signal.
2/ Standalone: the chain input is disconnected
3/ User Tuning: a tuning pot appear. It can be saved in presets.

KEYBOARD RANGE
- 3 octaves from C0 then the highest octave repeats once. the lowest octave is also repeated from c-2 to B-1.
(*) the note is C0 but I have placed on C 1 , to avoid pushing the octave down button on my 49 keys keyboard.
- In Chain mode, it is transposed to the lowest note.
- In Other modes, it is tuned one octave higher, as it should be.
- By using the "User Tuning" mode, you can transpose to a higher octave.

How to tune to a oscillator or synth ?
1 - Use a refernce tone such as a tuner, or a vsti of your choice, such as pads, strings or anything you want to use as a reference (making sure the sound is not detuned).
2 - Set the Master Tune of the target eurorack oscillator/synth to its lowest/minimum position (or in the middle in the case of a Master Tune).
3 - Play them together and move the Tuning pot. Use the largest circle mouse movement to have maximum resolution.
- save a presets to re-use.
