Alchemy Synth 1.2.5 last beta (with preset)

Post by bosone »

Alchemy synth 1.2.5 beta (with some preset included)

preset file handling may not be compatible with version 1.2.4 and you can get crash. sorry for this.

maybe you will need this DSP file:
http://www.alchemystudio.it/docs/sw41.dsp

my first attempt with a synth device.
please report bugs and comments!!

IT REQUIRES MODULAR 3 TO WORK! (sorry!)

there are 3 OSC sources from MOD3:
waldorf OSC
wavetable OSC
sample OSC with gain (you can load 16 bit mono WAV files) - you probably will get a "sample load" error here... a text bar was added to write sample infos (so you know which sample was loaded for a particular patch!)

there is a vector mix option (instead of the 3 channel mixer), with 3 mod sources (LFO 1,2, free) for X,Y and a joystick.

global synth volume

BPM sync for LFOs (i didnt tried if it sync to the sequencer, yet) with 2 dividers for the 2 env

velocity level for the 3 envelopes (for dynamics...)

you can invert ENV 2

5 modulation sources:
2 LFO. the second LFO (LFO2) can be modulated by the modwheel to get vibrato and you can select also LFO1xLFO2 and LFO1+LFO2
2 ADSR EG
1 "free modulation", you can choose between:
a) multistage envelope
b) multistage envelope x LFO 2

"zoom level" was added to the ENV pictures

multimode filter from modular III

modulation destinations:
each of OSC pitch and amplitude
waldorf wave modulation
global mix panning
filter cutoff
vector mix

you can separately save oscillators settings and modulators settings.

the device was inspired by the MORPHEUS modular patch

load your own FX in 2 insert slot (no stock FX were added)!!!

meters both pre and post external FX

there are custom MIDI assignements for most of the parameters, based on my own MIDIBOX controller. i will release a list of them as soon as i have time to write it! :-)

i will share the SDK project when the final version will be relased.

version 1.2.5 updated 11/10/08

8)

i have just tried the 1.1 version (not yet available... :P )

it has:

1) BPM sync for envelopes (i didnt tried if it sync to the sequencer, yet) with 2 dividers for the 2 env (really simpler than what i thought!)

2) "extended free modulation", now you can choose between:
a) multistage envelope
b) multistage envelope x LFO 2
c) LFO 2 x modwheel (for vibrato, for example...)

3) i removed the ring modulator. it didnt add a lot, according to my taste...

4) velocity level for the 3 envelopes (for dynamics...)

5) you can invert ENV 2 (but this envelope lacks the attack slope control)

6) add your ideas here for the 1.2 version! :D

2 problems:

1) it is not possible (or at least it seems to me) to save the sample loaded in the sampleOSC in the preset list.
as a consequence, the sampleOSC is always loaded with a default sample but i dont know if it is possible to make the device load a wav file in a default directory (for example SFP/Device/Synth)

i will try to use a samplePool and see if, in this case, the samples are saved with the device. in case it works, is anyone willing to contribute to make a sort of wavetable?
but again, even in this way the chosen sample will not be loaded in the sampleOSC.
maybe with the full SDK this would be possible.

2) the worst part. while i was working on the preset list and in other improvements the "1.1" version of the synth crashed, and now i am no more able to load it... so i have to restart from the 1.0 version (the one loaded here...)

Brotha' Man Bosone,

Thanks. So far it works fine, and as advertised.
I can only suggest each Oscillator have it's own Filter.
My Kyma / D50 samples sound excellent all by themselves, but things get really exciting once the wavetables are applied. Not duplicating the Oscillators and providing a Waldorf and a Wavetable was wise.

This is an excellent first synth, and a great idea.
I use 8 voices of polyphony to get some really full sounds, and Alchemy likes it. :)

Thanks, another cool idea for sure.

things may get complicated since i shuld also add more modulators...
maybe i can study a 2 filter solution (so with 2x instead that 3x modulators!), with custom routing (series, parallel, applied to a mix of oscillators...)?

i also thought about panning each OSC before mixing (so to have a stereo mixdown of the OSC), but this would require 2 filters that works identical in parallel, and the MOD filter i'm using doesnt permit this, since i cannot link the "filter type" and other parameters.

a new update with preset handling.
i **should** be near the final release...

please refer to the first post for details.

PS: the 2 filters solution with different routing paths for the different oscillators was abandoned due to my inhability to handle it!!!

Did you plan some front panel design afterward or would you need some help about that ?

hi!
i have to admit i am a completely noob with graphic design... so if someone would like to design a new frontpanel i would be happy! :)

but first i have to make the synth work correctly! so test it on real world! :D

well.. i have never designed a surface so i really don't know... for now i imagine that things involves "just" changing the background image and realign the existing knobs and buttons...

i also though about making an image of the same size and with the same layout i have designed.. maybe with some lines that separates the different sections

by the way, after lunch i made another small variation, now you can test the 1.2.4 version

Ok... now i am almost over...
the 1.2.5 shuld be the last version with improvements.
i included some presets and the table of my midi assignments (it may seem they dont have sense... but they match my custom MIDIBOX controller! :D )

preset file handling may not be compatible with version 1.2.4 and you can get crash. sorry for this.

as usual, refer to the first post
