PoleCat Beta.

Post by Neutron »

Update coming soon. that one has a bit of a bug.

New B02 "PoleCat" please delete any polyfilters you downloaded.

Its a polyphonic filter bank. the frequencies of the filters are controlled by which MIDI notes are being played. that way it is very easy to control from a sequencer or keyboard. it is very fun to play with. all thanks to a tiny atom file i never knew about before :D

First section
monophonic
comb filter removed replaced with inserts

update: there are 2 imputs with individual mono inserts, not left and right, but 1 and 2 they can be completely different sources, or the same thing with a different insert on either input. then you can control the mix of the inputs sent to each filter by either a simple mix knob or modulated.

The input signal stream is then divided in to the polyphonic section, so each instance will be affected separately.

polyphonic section (bottom part of the interface, always visible)
the 3 bandpass filters can all be played from the keyboard polyphonically. and the octave and fine tune can be changed.
If you have 3 voice polyphony thats a 9 channel filter bank.
each of the 3 filters can be modulated also by LFOs, envelope generators and follower The pan of each one can also be modulated by any of the same modulators. or the input source can be modulated. (mix between input 1 and input 2) there is a switch between potentiometer pan and modulated mix, or potentiometer mix, and modulated pan.

update: the follower can follow either of the inputs or any of the filters outputs (pre fader) so you can actually use one of the filters as a "detector" to control the follower, and that filter could be modulated by something else.

monophonic output
There is a modulatable (monophonic) stereo Formant filter on the output as well.

it sound very cool to play a "chord" of filters over an input that is rich in harmonics.and make noise, sound effects or drones follow your harmonies or chord progression.
if you have a sequence that covers several octaves, and have the filters set to those ocataves you can bring in and out different melodies of harmonics on the different bands.
For an input sound that is pitched, its really cool to hear new melodies that always work, because they are harmonics of the input.

1 more possible change. I am thinking of a sort of tempo delay section feeding back from the output to the input
and yes i know its a bit of a DSP Image

Of course THANKS FOR THE KNOBS SHROOMZ!

What atoms did you discover?
The Formant Filter is a great idea, especially if you have an external audio input planned.
If not, no biggie.
I have been using WAV's of various vocal libraries into a Formant Filter lately and can get pretty cool Vox style effects. And that would allow MIDI to track the note selections.

Nice One Neutron.

2nix
Its a very simple thing, basically the opposite of "poly mix" but allows a single stream of audio, control or whatever to be shared by each instance of polyphony. otherwise only every Nth note will work properly where N is the amount of polyphony.

Nice to have Neutron devices back again, maybe we'll see some new synths soon too  . Anyways, i usually find an 'X' does the trick to make something sound cool, so ladies and gentlemen i present:

PolyFilter-X.

Looks very nice Neutron! With a little work you could get this effect from your MGC device. As for the name I think Polyfilter would do the job but Pole Dancer would be much cooler. Nice one scotty. :D

No the MGC Is a different animal. it is based on mono drum voices, while this one is polyphonic.

and google search there is a filter in the solaris called polyfilter so now i definitely have to change it.

Pole Dancer that a couple of people suggested does have a good ring to it. You could even have a little silhouette logo of a girl on a pole. Erm.. sorry, that's sounds rude. I'll be off then.

It has many features, really nice.
The Formant Filters on the outputs is a great idea.
I used an Expression Pedal on both knobs for some nice motion.
However, there is a problem trying to close the surface. I had to delete the module to clear the window of it. The presets appear to work and are saved, but cannot be recalled. I spent an hour making two MIDI CC presets and 3 regular pre's and was ready to record Journey Up The Rhine, but maybe tomorrow as I must make sure my new VSTi and the pedal assignments function properly.
No biggie, but that's my discovery so far.

Thanks, it looks to be a keeper.

the preset list should not be used. it is not at all complete.
I usually dont do the preset list untill the thing is final, because any changes mean it has to be redone and its a pain in the ass.
the preset list that exist is from the original device it was made from, and probably only a couple of things are left from it. (maybe lfo1 and adsr1 thats about it)

the thing about it not closing. I just tried it. the little x does not work i just tried.
i never use it i think something must have covered it ill fix it next ver.
just double click on the module itself or click on the little image of it on the scope bar

BTW its going to be called "polecat"
