McLaughlin / Zawinul Style Ring Modulator

John McLaughlin and Josef Zawinul are Gods, I never could get that Ring Mod sound they got until I started messing around with Modular IV.
The Red BCM Modular (Ankyu Sharc) is zeroed out.
The effect comes from using the slide, best results are from 0 (dry) to 800.
By assigning Note Velocity at a minimum of 64 and maximum of 127 to the Constant Value module's fader, you can trigger the Effect through playing manually.
Or you could just use a SpaceF CC2 or CC2x2 and use an expression pedal.

The trick with this is to apply it during a solo or comp (chord) when the performer chooses.
Since Modular is being lit on fire again by Sharc, RoyT. w_ellis and jhulk, I plan on really digging deeper into it so I can sound the way I want.

Be Festive

Back in the 80s Dick Smith sold a Cylon Voice circuit kit which did a great job of imitating the McLaughlin bluebox solo on Visions. I just didn't have the chops to match so ended up using it to spook young kids instead

Looks like a good effort though - will check it out.

Loads OK on PCI - but crashed XITE-1D. I have installed ScopeSync to both PCI and XITE - will play around a bit more.

Dear Jimmy ! :o
I don't know where you found the "oscilloSCOPE" module cause I thought I've got every modular module existing on this earth ! Please ! Let us know from which place it comes from ! This would be very usefull as modular module !

Thanks a lot !

That's looking good Dawman.
In the 'old days' phase and level(as in bias) was implemented in Ring Modulators.
I've uploaded the RM patch here somewhere.

!!! :o !!! That's right ! It's inside the Maestro ! How does Jimmy do that ??
I made a research and I didn't find any oscilloscope module in my modular folder.
Nevertheless, one can copy / paste it in a modular shell from Maestro.

I was pretty sure it's not possible to use a modular patch with a module inside which is not present in the Scope folder ! Apparently, I was mistaking...

Now, I really don't know how to "extract" it from Maestro ! :-?

The module is not part of BCmodular : each BC module have a menu with, at least, color choice feature. The GUI looks like Modular III module.

In any case, the ring modulator Maestro effect processor is good and fun ! (I just tried it)
And the oscilloscope works perfectly... I really wish to have it in my modular module collection ! :D

Thanks fellas, and RK I shall delve into your RingMod and see what I might be able to add.

Yes ! Thanks a lot, Jimmy ! I caught it !
This device is really usefull for modular construction to see the pretty (or ugly) face of any signal...
I think I gonna use it all the time.

I don't know how it's possible for me to find some modular module I don't have yet !

Excellent !
:)

I have many.

To the Modular Ninja,...........Trickery is his weapon.
Routing.........A Way of Life.

Here's RoyTs Large MIDI Monitor for Project Windows.

Disclaimer: This is very hard to reproduce as it is a Modular Module.
Not suppose to be in a project window.
I just kept dragging and releasing it from a Mod Shell into the routing window, and one
day it set itself up in the far left corner.
I cannot reproduce this in the XITE-1 but saved the default for every project since 2008.

The module must reside in the Modular Modules folder somewhere, that's up to the user.

Hi JAV!
Damn, I wanted to make a MidiText device for years, I swear!
Again and again I forgot about it, sorry. It just took 5 minutes to complete it
Please download it here.
Have to check the patch, meanwhile all the best!
Roy

Wow ! What a speed !
Ok ! I've an other idea... What do you think of a midi text wich display a midi (or controler...) note message ? One note -> one message, another note -> another message.. (in fact, that's what I thought when I read "Miditext" !)
Or better (for modular) : a text displayed with a modulation signal ! A value -> a message, another value -> another message... Could be useful on live !
:D

I stop to have ideas, now, sorry.

JoPo what do mean exactly:
when pressing eg C3, text says 'Hi JoPo', when pressing C#3 it says 'Get to work -NOW' or something like that?
Or what messages do you mean?

um...that's what it does, no? :-?

Indeed it does do that.
Also makes a nice combo screenset with a MIDI Monitor device that shows multiple messages.
And thanks to RoyT we are a bunch of spoiled bitches.

Check out my live window. The ASIO Host (Bidule) usually sits underneath the view below.
But notice the screensets, mostly monitoring, and internal mixer effects in the 8 Buss/8 AUX Mixer spoiled us with too.
