KSmodIV

Post by roy thinnes »

Hi, patchday again! this time with a Karplus Strong patch.
Amongst many other modules, ModIV provides a KS capable module, called FCmodDly2. Which is not used in this patch, because, after some editing, tuning became unstable (every 2nd note had wrong pitch :( ). I used Flexor's StringVariable module instead, which gave very sarisfying results. Downside: 3 voices max.
How does it work?
-A short noise signal (here realized by noiseGenerator>VCA<ADenvelope) is sent to
-StringVariable osc, which gets its input freq from the MVC via a
-pitchModifier; modulation input1 is an
--amplitudeModulator, which modulates the Lfo's gain, by 1) Aftertouch [use it!] and 2) the Lfo itself.
the StringVariable osc's output is controlled by a
-VCA, modulated by an Adsr envelope. signal passes to the
-P1 Lp filter, which also has its own AD envelope for modulating cutoff frequency. the other cfMod source is the Lfo. to compensate gainloss, after the filter there is a
-12dB gain module, feeding a
-wShaperSftClp, to add a subtle saturation fx. after that, there is the last module before getting monophone, the
-polyOut, connected to a VU meter to avoid unwanted clipping, and a
-FreeFilterBank, where specific frequencies can be amplified or attenuated. Finally there are
-TempoFlanger and TempoDelay modules, to give some spatial impression.

Thats good. Reminds me of the old VST reFX plugin called 'Slayer', except even better, all it need now is a strat skin.

Skinable modular, now that would be cool.

I like it's Western Twang sounds you get by messing with the Tmod/LMods.
I can get 6 voices on the XITE-1 just in case others wanted to know.
I did a little recording where a 6 voice instance, is layered over a Portamento Mono Voice instance one octave higher.
One w/ Flanger, Mono gets the Leslie emu on the B2003.
Need more time to get exactly what I want, but this is from the first 30 minutes of tweaking.
