Why don't you try the DynaMixer?
Get a dynamixer, load ASIO source and dest, plus midi sequencer source and dest and a synth of your choise. Do not forget to put a wav source and dest in your projects, as 'startup driver' for Cubase. You'll get some of errors, if you don't. (you will still be able to load the Asio drivers manually though)
Make the desired dynamixer channels stereo, connect the ASIO to your mixer.
connect midi source to synth.
dymixer mix out to analog dest.
off you go.
