Very interesting ..virtual faders and knobs seem to be the future. The Slate Raven is already available. Virtual touch screen controls could be come the industry standard sooner then we think.

More appropriate would be examples of what progress has been made since Oct 2012. Eg an example of a 'new' instrument that's beyond the decade old physical modelling etc technologies

I have had lemur for a couple years, but just really getting into it. It's more amazing when you ditch the concept of trying to emulate knobs and such, and just use the interface for what it's good at. For example: why use 3 pitch controls plus 3 mixer knobs to control 3 oscillators, when you can use 3 xy touch pads, with x=pitch and y=level(mixer). I think it works very well. I'd love that type of control..automatically created, on a 23inch touch screen !!!

Interesting article.
Do I understand that they get better separation by using QUAD outputs from samplers?
Is anyone doing this?
It prompted me to start playing with surround sound settings on Kontakt and Independence.
I have not achieved much as yet, but if its worth doing I will persist, separation is a constant battle!

Nice article Stardust.
For those with short memories, check the archives of SOS the British publication known as Sound on Sound magazine.
Over the years his reviews led to me purchasing hardware like the Oberheim MC3000, RNP mic pres, many different pieces of kit.

He left to go work with Media Ventures 8 years ago I believe with no guarantee of a future, just a shot, and now we see why risk is always a factor worth taking.

Thanks For Sharing.

P.S. SOS Pubs will also bring up a list of gay bars in the UK so be sure to see if it's sound on sound reviews/mag, rather than the Gay Bar links.

Persoanlly I know I will visit the gay bars in the UK as drinking overseas is expensive, so for free drinks I will go there, more money for gear later on.
Just to but SOlaris and the XITE-1 I saved 100 USD per week as the drinks are free at gay bars in Las Vegas.

I would die for a week with Hans Modular and I can pretty much bet there's a custom interface with a nice MIDI Solutions F8 and Doepfer 88 noter on a desk.

The Emulator Elite is expensive, there are many touch surfaces at various sizes with competent response times available and the Emulator Pro software is only $49 and has a host of controllers available (x-y aplenty)

It has the look of controllers that were in development on Synthmaker forum before it became Flowstone which leads me to think that any type of controller should be possible to implement in to the software

Sonar is now touch friendly and perhaps other daws are too which makes this control surface a touch excessive!
