do you use it for tracking MIDI stuff at all? I'm wondering if their MIDI support got any love.
edit:

Well I don't need coffee made for me, but I never used Groove Templates before, and they have provided 100 of these various swing grooves from SP1200, DMX, MPC, etc.
I laughed at first but then I found one that really is funky as it swings and the pocket is way tight.
I am really quick at throwing drum stuff together but there's no way I could have ever played something like this straight.
It's really tight. It's called Groove Tool, and its part of the SWS Extensions.
We also got an audio jolt w/ 64bit Float, 48bit Integer and 192k.......
I really don't hear that much difference until I start at 192k and listen to tracks, then drop the rates down. It's not that noticable but the 48bit integer recording Solaris sounds really nice.

The Jaws String Mod is using it, and wormhole was 64bit float/96k.

Funny,
I've been thinking of looking into Reaper recently, care of a book I've bought called Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio.

So, Jimmy (or anobody really)

Does Reaper sit okay on the same PC as other apps such as Cubase (4.x)?

If so, is it easy enough to point it to \Steinberg\VSTplugins so I can use my soft synths (such as Omnisphere, Trilian, RMX etc)?

Is it fairly easy to get into after a life of only Cubase?

Anything else I ought to ask :-) ?????

as far as figuring the program out, it'll be like going from Microsoft Word to Corel Word Perfect. there'll be a learning curve, but at the end of the day, both programs do the same thing.

yes, there's no problem with both programs on the same PC.

yes, it's easy to enable your vstis from the Cubase folder.

the Reaper trial is free, so if you want to try it, it's no big deal. it is different in workflow to Cubase, but it's no alien. some things are easier in Cubase(audio editing for example, imho), but Reaper is very easy to setup and record, a little easier than Cubase imo.

I always found audio editing in Reaper light years ahead in terms of speed compared to Cubase, so i suspect it is very down to the user ;)

yes, that's the only reason why there needs to be more than one sequencer on the market. there are many that will work just fine. some will like one over another and that's all nice.

Hi,

I came from Cubase to Reaper and whilst there is a little learning curve it's not hard. I love Reaper now and can't see me changing in the future to be honest...grab hold of the manual and work through it - you'll be up and running in no time.

Neil:
Mike Senior's Mixing secrets for the Small Studio is about the best book I've ever bought in relation to the subject - it's a mine of useful, practical stuff and Mike says it like it is. It also made me laugh out loud a couple of times..love the comments regarding slap bass and bagpipes..

Have fun - I'm off to listen to my mix cube in mono :)

It does look quite nice. I've never tried using it so far cause I'm using Live and Cubase, but I do like their ethos and business model, coupled with the fast update schedule (something completely alien to both Cubase and Live developers).

Sorry about the delay in replying - just got back from 2 weeks mountain biking in Scotland (worn out)!!!

Thanks for that Grappa - I'm planning "doing the mixing secrets book" as a winter project.
I'll be buying reaper once I've got my feet back under the table.

Go to http://www.groove3.com and check out Kenny Goia's Reaper 4 video.
30 bucks and it's better than any dated manual.
He demos it on a Mac but it's easily translated to PC. Only onw drop down menu slightly differs.

Ankyu......
I am watching the Reaper 4 video since this guy can save anyone tons of time.
Reaper is 48bit Integer now too. I don't hear much difference between it and VDAT, but for 50 bucks it's nice.
Plus there's dozens of versions, so if you notice any changes with newer versions like extra CPU resources used, etc. You can roll back as far as 2010 3.0.

Really cool little app. You'll see how to use custom toolbars and themes, to make Reaper conform to your desired workflow.

Cheers......

48-bit? Where do you get this from? It says 64-bit everywhere.

Project Settings > Advanced > ........
Other options are now 48bit Integer ( 9 bits for some scientific formula ) so it says 39bit Integer. 32bit Integer, etc.etc.
12bit Integer is serious Lo-Fi stuff.

I saw the video at the Union Hall....... :D
