My first event! :)

Post by irrelevance »

Hey folks. I've taken a step into promotions and will be hosting my first event called Forward Escape @ The Black Sheep Bar Croydon sunday 11th April 2010. I've managed to pull together some great dj's (including myself :P imho ) and some great live acts for special sunday party of the full and many varied aspects of psytrance. Played out a fair few times in the past but this is also a special first as it's my first public harmonic mix session courtesy of ableton live. So I'll be bringing a set of melodic new school goa and also venturing off into the darker sides of psy. If you can make it let know! Any words of support also appreciated ;)

Cool.
You will become addicted to performing which will cause more practicing, etc.
The Snowball is moving now.

Congrats.

Croydon's not too far for me (Camberwell) so I might just pop along (depends on a course I'm doing).

I am a hopeless addict to live performing. The pressure is a rush, everynight is different, and doing what you love is ultimate reward.
At least you get a shot at it.
Thousands of guys could probably be trying this where they live, but lack the confidence and motivation.
You'd be suprised at how well the brain can work under pressure.
By this time next year they could be selling Irrelavance Posters at local gift shops........who knows.

Hope it goes well mate. Nice poster too.

Me and a few other mates organised a night in Hong Kong many years ago in this little club on Repulse Bay Beach. Was great fun apart from we all got so completely out of it that someone walked off with all the ticket money, so just make sure you have that stashed somewhere safe before you start on the shrooms or trips :)

But have a great time and if I can make it I will try although I cant promise at the moment.

Cheers

That would be so funny if it hadn't ended so badly :o  I'm sure you all see the funny side now though
I'm gonna be sober on the night though as I wanna make sure everyone else has a great time although a few bottles/pints may come my way. They do a lovely dark ale that is hard to resist 8)

Was struggling to identify where that picture was taken for while but I think it's taken from outside the oval tube station right? Down for the cricket eh strav?

Well what a night!! All the dj's and artists played some slammin tunes which left folks begging for more. However it wasn't the turn out I wanted which meant the night ran at a loss :( ...so I'm gonna have rethink the promotions strategy. But met some great people on the night and really enjoyed my set!

Congrats............You are no longer a Cherry.. ( Yankee slang ).
I was faced with the same scenario years ago in Nevada and concluded that since the only ads people see are the Marquis outside in the Neon Theatre sign I would name the band 25 cent draft.
It worked great.
Having a talented, slutty singer kept the crowd, even though the draft beer was 99 cents anyways. Many other groups have had better success like the band Bare Naked Ladies, and many others.
I would try every trick in the book since business is war where I am from.
I am happy you did your gig though.

Are you allowed to get drunk and have fun if you are in the audience..? I am not sure how politically correct things are where you are from.
I know in California the nightlife has been destroyed by the politicians and all of their politically correct laws that kill business.
I use to play gigs up and down Pacific Coast Highway in the '80's as SoCal was THE place back then. All of the clubs on the Piers and Beaches were just heavenly. Bikins and wraps, drinking and dancing.....then the Liberals came and changed all of that.
Now they punish you by taxing booze until it is unaffordable, handing out fines to anyone drunk in public ( 1 Beer ...!!!!! ), telling the restaraunt they cannot sell certain foods, what to wear, how to shit, where to sit....etc.etc.
However, they don't enforce the gangs that come there and sell drugs and harrass customers since the cops are all Putos and are underpaid.
Really sad.....remember all of those great movies from the 70's and 80's...? Those are distant dreams in the Soviet Socialist Republic Of California these days.
But the House Parties there are the action now,and everyone has a Pool since nobody goes to the Beach unless they surf, or weigh a few hundred pounds, or are broke and bag up Grunions as they wash up on the shore to sell for bait..........

Peace.
